TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Derek Dooley
Opening statement:
"Well real bad ending to a real bad season. It's hard to say much more than that, our biggest fears were realized. We were miserable in the first half on offense and had a chance in the second half but just couldn't execute. Give Kentucky a lot of credit. They played a lot more inspired football than we did. Now we have to begin our climb up because I did believe we were going to hit a place that wasn't good. We were headed in this direction all along and just couldn't fight our way out of it. Real disappointing but we're going to have to learn from it and begin our climb in the offseason when we get back."

On not making a bowl game
"It's very disappointing; something that shouldn't happen at Tennessee and hopefully it's something that won't happen again soon."

On Kentucky seeming to play more inspired
"I think our execution was just so poor. That's probably a better way of saying it. Our quarterback really struggled in the first half especially. Lethargic, he was sick all week. We thought he'd be a little better. He struggled so we were going to give him one more quarter in the third and he made a couple plays so we decided to stick with him but we just couldn't execute it."

On the final drive
"I thought we would be able to make enough plays to get it down there and win the game but it wasn't our day."

On the Kentucky quarterback situation
"We thought they might come out in a wildcat but didn't know it was going to be the whole game so we had to sit there and basically play wing-T football. We had two drives that we probably shouldn't have given up. They had 217 yards on offense, we were 4-of-15 on third down, and we only had 61 rushing yards. We're just not very good and I've been saying that all year so I don't really know what to say."

On Tennessee's defensive performance
"Yeah they did good, but they had a receiver at quarterback and ran it every time. We missed a lot of tackles. We fumbled the ball and they went 80 yards on a drive. On a quarterback boot one time our guy was right there and ran back in coverage, I don't know why. They had a sweep on third and 15 and we had a guy right there miss a tackle. We played like a team that is not very good and we're not. That's what we are."

On the end of the Tennessee win streak against Kentucky
"Certainly you don't want it on your watch but it happened and there's not much we can do about it now except try to start another one."

TENNESSEE FRESHMAN SAFETY Brian Randolph
On UK wide receiver Matt Roark playing quarterback
"We game planned a little bit for it. We knew he was a high school quarterback. When we saw him warm up, we weren't too surprised."

On the Coach Dooley saying that Kentucky was more inspired than their team
"They had nothing to lose. I think we came out and we were inspired also."

On if the team believed they could make a comeback during the fourth quarter
"We all had confidence in our offense and we thought they were going to put on some points and then it was pretty surprising at the end."

TENNESSEE JUNIOR SAFETY Prentiss Waggner
On if the defense provided a breakthrough in the game
"I wouldn't necessarily call it a breakthrough; I just call it doing our job. We knew once we did our job, we could give our offense as many chances as they could to get the ball in the end zone."

On how it felt to not be able to stop Kentucky even though they only had six passes
"It was really frustrating. Throughout the whole game we were just looking to get the ball to the offense as many times as we could."

On having to end the season on a loss to Kentucky
"It was really down in the locker room as expected after a big loss like that. We couldn't get the seniors out on a good note so that's the main thing we are disappointed about."

It goes back to an earlier post. When you tell your team they are no good, they soon start to believe and performance suffers. The problem we have is ownership and that our coaches take none. Dooley has yet to take the blame for any o his bad decisions and constantly places it on the players. Dooley sucks as a head ball coach. Dave Hart needs to make some major changes.

Well we lost when Bray got us to the 8 yrd line and they took him out and dont the wildcat and Neal missed the snap and Kentucky recovered it. Makes no sence in takeing Bray out.

CDD has at least been honest, we are not a good football team. Whatever the reason is, that is the truth, we are one of the worst teams in the SEC right now. All season long he has said we arent very good, but i thought thats just coaches talk, he was being serious, and this bull about "if he keeps saying it they eventually will believe it", they should believe it because its the truth, instead of whining and moping they should realize its the truth and work harder to get better.

I keep hearing "this is a young team". I heard "this is a young team" last year, and the year before that--"this is a young team". When will we stop being a young team and the "young" players step up, man up, and play with the fierceness of some of our other SEC schools? Just curious.

I keep hearing "this is a young team".WHICH IT IS I heard "this is a young team" last year,FRESHAMN QB, RECEIVERS, AND OLINE, ONLY GRADUATED 12 IIRC and the year before that-KIFFINS YEAR< THEY WERE ALL FRESHMEN, WHO MOSTLY ARE NO LONGER HERE-"this is a young team". When will we stop being a young team and the "young" players step up, man up, and play with the fierceness of some of our other SEC schools? Just curious.

I do however agree that we need to be Tennessee and step up and show the world what that means...which is 60 minutes of bone jarring, mad hitting, in your face football...with A PASSION!!!

Like my high school band director said, "I Don't care if you are the sorriest team on the field...be the sorriest team with a PASSION!!!"

I like Tee's answer to what it was like getting a WR ready to play QB on short notice: "We had to keep it simple. There wasn't much we could do."

It was enough to beat the Vols Tee.

I might be wrong, but it almost sounds like KY had a game plan and they worked hard to execute it.

When the majority of our offense and defense is not a majority of true freshmen. We don't have a full roster of players yet because of recruiting limits. Should at least have a full team with this class coming in. Be nice to get some JUCO upperclassmen transfers too.

I have been on the DD train since the inception. I am no longer on the train. We are out classed here Vol fans unless CDD VOLS up an says bye bye 2 our OC and DC... the proof is in the pudding. How many times did the Chiefense save Fulmer.......???? Today was the most horrible game I have seen since the early stages of Coach Majors. He was then taking over for another suffering coach (Battle). I believe Dooley believes in TN, but I'm not sure his staff has bought in...Any takers?????

Great recruits......lack of coaching..... Coach Wilcox was great in the PAC 10 as a player and even great in the MWC as a DC, but that does NOT transfer to the SEC....This is big boy football.... You cannot survive here without the ability to coach... Just Check FU'
s stats with Charlie Strong.....?????!!!!!

There is a reason that teams fear the SEC and having to play us for a NC.....That reason is DEFENSE..... if you think I am lying look at Chief. LSU has it going on.......Any takers????? LSU will be the NC's and well deserved........

The HAT sux, but Chief is the man......Justin Wilcox needs to go back west and Jim Chaney needs to sell hot dogs on Sat @ Neyland.....They would both fair far better than what they currently are doing for UT....

I am 40 years old and this is the WORST UT team I have seen since I can remember with UT Football.....

If we can get a new OC/DC we may be oK......CDD should be able to see this. If he does not....well.....bye...!!!!!

WE HAVE A CAKE WALK SCHEDULE in 2012.....

Can I get someone to comment on my post please??????

I expect 9 wins maybe 10.....if not......I am NOT going 2 be a season ticket holder in 2013......

I don't know if my kids will be UT Alum at that point.......

This is INEXCUSIBLE..........

Coach Neyland, Dickey, Majors, Fulmer.....would say....WTF????>?????????

I am OVER it.....

Ok...I am a strong supporter of DD. BUT, I am getting a bit wore out with his telling everyone we are not a good team....so yes, to the points being made, I think you have to blow sunshine inspite of the situation. Don't just beat em to death with news that they suck.

DD needs to consider his motivation scheme.

Truth is.... We are not a good football team though... I like his tell it like it is mentality. Our DC is just fine. Dooley admited there are coaching issues. OC needs to go like yesterday!

I was also on the Dooley train. I bought into the "young players" theory. I bought into the "give it some time" arguement. Now, I'm not so sure if those were valid points or simply EXCUSES. Dooley calling HIS football team "not very good" is ironic, IMO. Its ironic because, as the head coach, isn't it ultimately HIS fault that we are "not very good"?

For the record, Dooley has:

finished with a winning record in ONE season since 2007 (2008...8-5)

only been above .500 in conference play ONCE since 2007 (2008...5-3)

won ONE bowl game since 2007 (2008...Independence Bowl)

Does this mean that every one of his teams (except his 2008 squad) was "not very good"?

Give me a break! Its called ACCOUNTABILITY ---> Look it up.

In real life, I manage a high quality restaurant. If you came to my restaurant and, after your meal, informed me that your food was awful and your service sucked, would you be satisfied with me telling you it was because my servers and chefs were "not very good"?...NO YOU WOULD NOT.

I'm not saying fire Dooley (yet), I'm saying that Hart should lay out clear expectations for Dooley and HIS team's performance going forward.

GBO.

Teams all over the nation win with young guys on the team! Part of the Tennessee fan base is moronic enough to buy that bullcrap! We're recruiting very nice guys that can teach Sunday School but they are awful football players! They suck!
