Possible X factor in the offense v Alabama

The X-factor for me is the Vols turnovers.

Unfortunately this is one of the main problems of this offense. Likely that Vols would have 2-3 (or more to's) vs. Alabama unfortunately.

A turnover problem to this level does not just go away in a few practices after half a season of football has been played

IMO could be Tyler Byrd. I know he is a FR but that kid has gamebreaker written all over him. He has shown the ability to go in the middle, make good catches and plays. With his shiftiness and speed, he just might be the X factor for us.

What say you VN?

He's also showing some of the dog Jennings has, he does NOT like DBs getting or keeping their hands on him. This kid is a playmaker and winner, get the ball in his hands!!

I agree he's got Kamara like big play ability.

Very disappointed in TE play this yr. Drops all over the field. Yeah some right behind them but others right in their hands.

Croom is what he is now. Average TE with bad hands.

Byrd is a play maker. Need to get him involved more. Smith is a wasted down. I thought he'd be better in slot. He's worse and looks slow

Croom's problem is he seems to play tight. His number gets called and he panics because he knows he has to make a play. I think he is most effective when his number isn't called and he's the check down route.

Quite frankly all the tools in the shed need to be used in the game.
Croom and Wolfe in the middle.
Byrd and AK on the edges
Hurd and Kelly between the tackles
Roll the pocket for Dobbs
Jennings and Malone over the top
and finally if all that fails: The annexation of Puerto Rico, FTW.

The Third Saturday in October, a date no less important than VE Day. A date no less famous than The Fourth of July (and should, by all rights, be a National Holiday) absolutely deserves every single page of the playbook to be available; and even a few installed just for this years edition of the criminal tide. This is THE BIG GAME of the year. It is what all the ones that have gone before are merely tune-ups for. The First Quarter of TTSIO is the equivalent of the D Day Landing at Normandy. A movie should be made. It's name should be Saving General Neyland's Honor.

This is Alabama Week! Get Ready! #WGWTFA into a puddle and walk it dry. We always do that. Even when we lose. And they return the beating. That is why we're the team they love to hate, and we return the disfavor.

Would love to see Byrd get more touches. He's been impressive.

Croom is due a break out game. His career has been stagnant and it's time he step up.

I don't think Croom is a natural athlete or football player. He seems like a big guy that's in shape and looks the part sort of like Jakob Johnson. Plus, he's never had great hands. He might catch the occasional TD pass but I doubt he's ever going to have a break out game.

To all those writing Josh Smith off:

Anybody can have a bad season. There was a time when Smith was our most reliable receiver. Jauan Jennings is ascendant right now, and I have more confidence in him that any of our other receivers, but he can't do it alone. Both the Josh's (Smith and Malone) need to step up and start making the catches they've made in the past, both for the sake of their own production and in order to prevent defenses from keying on JJ too much. Both Smith and obviously Malone are capable of making defenses pay for committing too much to JJ, but they have to catch the ball.

I like Josh Smith and am not writing him off totally but even though Byrd hasnt played as much, he just looks better right now. Malone is big time. He usually makes big time catches and has gamebreaking skills. He didnt have a great game against AM but he has been our #1 guy this year with JJ a close #2. IMO Byrd just seems like a slot guy that can absolutely burn you at any moment.

Need to make Byrd more of a priority...

Has gamechanging ability, ala Kamara..

Who do you deprioritize? Malone? Jennings? The 1 or 2 targets Wolf or smith get? Kamara? Williams?

We actually have a lot of weapons. Hard to get them all the ball. Good problem to have.
