I’m just curious what everyone else is thinking as far as different guys we can try to plug and play on the defensive line. I say plug in play but in reality I mean looking for young guys who are ready to contribute now. I really want to see Greg Emerson gets some reps this weekend to see what he can do, same for Kingston Harris as well. I think they both have the size to help us now, but I haven’t heard much of anything on Emerson, which is alarming. What are you guys/gals thinking?

I think Pruitt is going to have to put guys like Deandre Johnson, Bennet and Bain. All these guys need reps. You have to be able to rotate on the DL.

I agree, they have to build some sort of rotation on that defensive line if we’re gonna win in the sec. I think those 3 guys definitely could rep for us, along with Gooden too. I just don’t know for sure what Pruitt’s gettIng from them in practice. Matthew butler is a guy who could help too, he’s a little light is his problem but he’s extremely fast and has pretty good instincts.

I know Emerson and Harris both got snaps but we didn’t rotate as much as we should have. I feel bad for Kyle he has great talent but has yet to produce

Thanks, and I fet like we should of had a more consistent rotation too. I thought Kyle played hard against WVU. If everyone around him could win there one on one battles then I think he could show some more big play potential. He’s a pretty big guy but I’ve always felt just off of appearance that he was a little undersized. Kyle is quiet too, so is shy, And I think that’s had some effect as far as the d line not having a solidified leader to get them going. Shy played beastly against WVU though, I just hope he stays healthy so he can showcase that over the duration of a season.

Shy looked like his usual self. In order for the 3-4 to truly work your nose tackle needs to be able to double team offensive line and both DEs need to be around 300 lbs. I really like the upside of Kingston Harris. He is going to be a really good one. Kyle Phillips unfortunately just doesn’t fit the scheme. He can be used in hybrid packages

DL's will get their rotations, because we've only got a set number of bodies there. Probably more importantly, we need OLB's to bring some fire to pass rush. For all the talk about LB being strength of team, and like Denver Bronco's, I didn't see much in week 1.

Right, we definitely need to be better as a group at LB to help out the d-line and the corners for that matter. I wonder if at some point Pruitt moves a guy from o-line back to d-line. Maybe Crosby, but who knows cause it’s doubtful to happen.

Whats up with Eric Crosby? Is he still on the O-line? He definitely has the size to be in the rotation at nose.

Crosby is at OL. With what young guys we have at guard and whats coming in I doubt he will ever play here. Could see him being one of MANY transfers after the season which is a good thing.

Yeah, he’s still on offense right now. I’d like to see him at nose tackle too. There must be something we’re not seeing that Pruitt doesn’t like I’m assuming. It’s just another case of a guy who was hyped up under the previous regime’s recruiting only to come here and not contribute like we thought he may. Albeit he does still have plenty of time to play for us in his future so hopefully Pruitt and co can mold him into what they want.

Need JJ Peterson asap at OLB.
Now...WVU had two futue NFL OTs.
But even NFL get beat. Those guys never got beat against us.

Taylor and Kongbo are both way too passive. They're scared to bend and dip.

Crosby is not in good football shape. He's like 6'1 and 340*. Needs to lose about 30 lbs. He's still with the OL.

This is a line of scrimmage conference. I'm convinced we can go bowling if our d linemen get angry about backfield penetration.

They can get angry all they want, but if they don't learn to wrap up and tackle, getting backfield penetration will hardly matter

The SEC is not touch football Mr Kongbo, Phillips, Abernathy and all others on defense!
Get it done scholarship Vols, lay the wood.
