I want to start by saying I'm disappointed by the overall performance last night, but we did win. That is ultimately all that matters. So what are the positives?

1). We won. Again, this is what the record will state
2). I really think Dobbs made some good passes last night. He missed a wide open Malone with a high pass. He has to protect the ball and our receivers. But he hit PWilly about 5 times in the first quarter for some good chunks of yards.
3) or 2b. He hit a deep route to Malone. He threw a nice pass on the back line of the end zone that was knocked loose on the ground. He hit Josh Smith on a post in a two minute drill, but it was dropped.
4. Just maybe we learned the one skill we needed last year . . . How to overcome adversity and win late in a football game when the pressure is on.

The future is bright. It's going to be our year. Go Vols.

Evan Berry. One touch and a 45-50 yard return. Get that kid more touches please!!!!!

It's mind-boggling that we aren't at least trying him out on offense, especially since he's apparently not good enough at safety to even see the field.

As an Aeronautical Engineer, Dobbs is very bright. On that last play, he realized the ball was going to come up short and therefore he placed it in the end zone for Hurd.

That was an extremely intelligent move!

Thought it was good to see some adversity. I thought last night would be tough, but not we need to win in OT tough. Everything that could have went wrong last night did and we fought through and won.

I thought for the majority of the game the defense played well. Sutton made a fantastic interception. Barnett played good football but most of all McDowell impressed me filling in for Maybin. He was solid.

Looking forward to next Saturday. I don't think what we witnessed last night is going to be what we should expect this season. This week just became a huge game for our perception IMO.

The D played very well. That was ASU's lowest total O since their first game in FBS against Michigan in '14.

It is a "trick" offense that allows them to recruit players tailored to that offense. Obviously hard to defend.

Positives were our Defense. Look at our stats vs Ap state verses clemsons last year. They are very close. But we did a better job against the run 184 vs 202 against clemson. Clemson gave up more 10 yd and 20 yd runs. Clemson gave up more total yards. So our defense did not play that bad. Dobbs did not pass like watson did for Clemson. That is the difference.

When I first joined this forum; under a different user name; it was just a few days after the huge comeback win at LSU post Katrina. There was a poll asking who is the better QB Casey of little Ricky; I couldn't believe it, it was overwhelmingly in the favor of Rick Clausen. I was like, are these people out of their mind. That is just a perfect example of the knee jerk affect. Therefore move away from the ledge.

Clemson also pulled their starters for the entire 4th quarter (or maybe it was midway through the 3rd). UT had the 1's in the whole game, right?

Hats off to y'all on a game well played.

Thanks! I was pleased with everything except our kicking game. I've still got serious doubts about Taylor Lamb's passing abilities, too.

I loved the Neyland experience and watching my niece-in-law play in the Pride of the Southland, too.

Good luck with the rest of the season.

If you guys can pull off that win in Boone vs. Miami, y'all won't lose another game all season and I bet you end up ranked. Good luck!

I'm thankful for the kicking game woes y'all had last night lol but in all seriousness y'all have a good squad.

Good luck to y'all the rest of your season as well.

IMO the #1 should be the defense. As the game wore on and it became clear all bets were off and App State appeared to actually be winning, the D played better and better. Overtime came along and App State gained five yards in four plays.

Nice addition to the general gnashing of teeth.

I agree. The D played well considering the points you mentioned. A few more missed tackles than I would have liked to see.

Offense sputtered and mistakes by players that should know better hurt the effort. Also C. Thomas who was an above average center in 2015 played like hot garbage for a consistent part of his snaps.

Team played an F+ game and still managed to be lucky enough to win. Very few players deserve better than a passing grade on the night. Cortez filled in nicely for JRM. Micah played a great game and Cam had a nice night after his muff. After that the D was pretty much MIA.

Offensively they stunk too. I did think the WR's played well though when they had the chance. J. Smith's drop was an amazing effort that he just didn't come up with. P. Williams drop in the end zone was more disconcerting. Josh Malone needs more targets. Wolf played pretty well. I also thought Richmond held up his end. Other than those guys mentioned I feel like everyone else laid a collective egg. Possibly their worst game as a Vol.

Multiple guys playing below expectations and coaches being conservative mixed poorly and almost derailed the train.

Lucky to win for sure. Season not over though.
