Portal Needs - Defense

Think it’s going to be hard to find a CB definitively better than Redmond and Gibson to come in and start while also not running one of them off.
While I somewhat agree, Hood was projected as CB3 when we got him and now he's on par with how good McCoy was..

Whether they are perceived as better doesn't much matter, though certainly you don't want NIL valuations to be an issue.

DT is certainly the biggest need. I expect Heup and crew know that. We generally aren't shy about going after top guys at positions we think are thin/need an improvement. I think we pull one the top guys here.

I'd like to see us a pull a good safety from the portal with experience. Jakobe Thomas was a big a loss in the spring and it really showed this year.

Plug and play starters/impact players:

1 CB
1 Star
1 Safety
2 IDL
1SDE (1 year of eligibility left)

Spend that QB money on this list.
Yup! Agreed. I would add one more star/cb too. Hybrid player that can play all positions. Starters are set at corner for next year, but we need depth bad.

We need a captain and alpha at safety next year. I think we have missed Brooks the most from getting people in position and his leadership.

Farooq is playing good ball down the stretch.

Theodore will be in the two deep if not start.
He’s dynamic. He’s as explosive as King on offense and even better on defense.

Need two DTs form portal with or without Finch and JUCO guy
Agree on Farooq. We need at least 3 good safeties, ideally 4. Walton has upside. Beasley may transfer. So need a portal safety.

Bullseye, so far next season we only have on the interior of the D`Line Hobbs (looks good but played about 5 starts) Campbell, Utley and House (true freshmen who have shown very little yet that gives me confidence we can rely on them in 2026).

If we cant stop the run up the middle in 2026 there will be stress on EVERY department behind it.
Yeah I actually think we have some good talent... Just need quality depth. So some veteran help that allows you to rotate like you want to. And that allows the younger guys to get quality, productive reps, that will ultimately help develop them.

I had really high hopes coming into this season, but after 10 games, I doubt it. You either take good angles or you don't. You either have speed or you don't. I feel the same way with Telander.

Don’t think Farooq is slow. And he’s a thumper.

He’s a shorter Jakobe Thomas - who played similar here - and everyone here is now wishing we had that dude back

Farooq has played much better lately. He’s a 2nd year player and first year starter. He has had a learning curve and it looks like he’s getting there.

Beasley is the one who has really disappointed me. We heard all off-season that he looked really good in his move to safety. But he hasn’t looked like an SEC player anytime he’s gotten out there. Maybe he’s better suited for STAR.
