I wonder if Obama will hold to his pledge to have the legislation online for 5 days (I believe that's his number) for public review and debate before he signs it. He's violated this pledge at least 2x times already.

I didn't vote for him but I had hoped some of the rhetoric against him would prove to be overblown. We are VERY early into things and I must admit, if this is really the kind of thing we can come to expect I think matters will become ugly in short order.

Where did he say he would do this? Not saying he didn't say it, I just don't remember it.

Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.

I believe the way they are presenting this bill it really doesn't qualify under his pledge. I don't agree that this bill is something that has to be pushed through quickly, the more time to scrutinize it the better.

presumably, they'll call this one emergency.

I'm honestly trying to avoid going too far down the cynicism road too fast but were I to do so I think it would sound something like this:

"Now that Obama's on this side of the election I don't think he gives a rat's rotting rectum if anything he wants to get passed is reviewed by anybody that would disagree with it."

They already have. This thing won't see the light of day for any significant amount of time before it is the new law of the land.
but it is and they're completely justified in saddling us with this, to include federalized healthcare, for emergency reasons.

They've done enough already to get a vicious midterm hammering the likes of which Gingrich and Co never even considered giving Clinton.

Isn't the bill up? My understanding was that it is just in .pdf form without searchable text. If you want to read it, I think it is up...or at least was last night...no?

there's a rush to vote on this crap sandwich because Nazi Pelosi has to trundle off to Rome for a tax payer funded Congressional junket to meet the Pope.

I know that our resident democrats are embarrassed by that woman, but why should America pay such a heavy price because she's got a schedule to keep.

I hope the democrats enjoy their remaining two years in the majority. when this sham fails and the economy takes a further nosedive, Collins, Snowe and Specter won't even be useful as scapegoats.

If Michael Steele blows this opportunity, then I'll be forced to agree with OE that he's nothing but a hack.

I think we knew those were out there, but the searchability is the only thing that makes a 1500 page doc worthwhile. I sorta think the dems know that too.

Yeah..my post said as much...I was just reflecting on the "we can't read any of the details of it" portion of the OP. It is there and it can be read, but I do agree that the ability to search is the key point (which I tried to get across in my post). I would like to hear an explanation as to why this was the form that it went up in. It had to be in electronic form to print in order to scan...so my inclination is to agree with your (and others) assessment of the dems motives.

Why should the resident democrats be any more embarrassed than the resident republicans. I think she is a POS not worthy of governing our country. Neither you nor I had anything to do with her being in power. The embarrassment should be on her constituents in California. If I had my way, this country would be governed by nothing but moderates, but unfortunately our country isn't set up in a manner for which that could be possible.

For her being IN the government is certainly on her CA constituents. That she is in such a position of power in the Democratic party spreads the blame a bit further. Wouldn't you agree?
