Popular stuff that you just don't get

Okay, folks, I'm on record already stating my non-affinity for the Beatles. They are, obviously, wildly popular, but I just don't get it. I want some other examples from VN, from any media (music, movies, actors, sports, food, etc. - anything). Some other examples:

1. Eva Longoria: Most guys seem to love her, but I just don't get it. She's as skinny as a rail, and couple that with her character on Desperate Housewives (okay, I've seen it a few times), and I just don't get it.

2. The English Patient: Sienfeld did a whole episode on this. Everyone loved The English Patient, but Elaine just didn't get it. I don't either, frankly.

3. NASCAR. No explanation necessary - I just don't get it. Let the firestorm begin.

4. Mexican Food: I love it, as do most folks, but my 5-year old just doesn't seem to get it (at least not until recently; he seems to be catching on).

5. Chex Mix: I hate that stuff.

I'll agree with your Beatles and NASCAR. Mine :

1. Sushi - haven't really tried it but don't want to

2. Country Music - it just sucks

3. Ultimate Frisbee - Don't get me started

4. Standup comedy - it just doesn't really excite me

5. Dare I say Beer - maybe I've been drinking the wrong stuff?

I could make a list roughly 4 miles long of TV shows and movies that are popular that I don't understand people liking.

Heres one people will defend to the death...Scrubs.

Well here's the thing, I think some standup comedy is funny once I hear it. I really like Demetri Martin and Nick Swardson (and I love Stephen Lynch but that doesn't really count) but if someone pops in a cd or turns it on on the tele and I don't know who it is I'll just leave the room. It just bores me. It's complicated.

I can watch Scrubs, but it's not anywhere near my favorites. It has its funny moments, but nothing groundbreaking. Agree.

That's fair. Demetri Martin and Nick Swardson are both legit. I would argue that there are at least 3-5 more comedians that you would/should really like those two. I am a big stand up comedy fan, but I completely agree that it can be stupid and terrible and when it is it is amongst the worst things in the entire world.

I can understand that. My wife suggests watching Everybody Loves Raymond every time it's on, and I never want to watch it. Once I do, however, it is always funny. I just never want to watch it. Complicated indeed.

also, people's lovefest with the matrix. i thought that movie was one of the most overrated films i had ever seen.

If I have no choice but to watch stand up then I usually end up watching it and find it funny. I just have some mental block that makes me dislike it initially. Idk?

I mean like I said, I think it's all in who you're watching/listening to...

You also have to be in the right mood, thats why even though I have several people I find hilarious I never force them upon anyone because it wont be as funny/enjoyable that way.

I understand you're uncertainty with it, I'm just not the same way.

blasphemy. The first Matrix was great. If you mean every movie after that, you have a point.

The first Matrix was great indeed. The others after it weren't great but I mean I wasn't miserable watching them. They wouldn't be anything I'd recommend though after the first one.
