I've read a lot that many people are blaming Brandon for "taking sacks". I actually thought he did a good job of getting rid of the ball on multiple occasions, or it could have been 15 or 20 sacks. I honestly can't remember in the 43 years I've been going to games seeing an offensive line play so atrociously awful.

They were whipped and manhandled the entire game. 10 sacks and how many hurries? 20 or 30 or more? For those that want to put this on Brandon, if an offensive lineman does his job a QB never has to "take a sack" in the first place. Brandon was literally running for his life.

They have to get this fixed literally this week or conference play will make a very difficult season. Texas was not doing anything fancy. The vast majority of the time it was four down lineman just literally whipping the person in front of them. That is sad and inexcusable.

I'm good with coach playing some backups just to see if they'll actually put forth the effort to not wiff and actually attempt to block. I think a lot of these guys just need a gut check and a wake up call and it better happen this week.
Were they bad yesterday? Yes
Did Faizon hold the ball too long? Also yes.

Two things can be true at once.

The OL sucked but I think there were also plays to be made. Faizon just missed a few of them and held onto the ball a little too long. I also think our play calling was questionable at times

The disappearance of slants/out patterns didn't help much either

Muschamp is smart. Very smart.

Here's the thing about a "wide choice" passing offense which is what we run most of the time...any time except for with 2TEs.

Every WR makes a read on every play. They see if the defender is playing inside or outside leverage on them (staying inside them or outside them, dropping or moving forward too) Based on this read...the WRs and QB know that the WR is either gonna run their deep route or cut the route off with a comeback, hook, etc.

Muschamp coached his DBs to behave in the manner that makes the WRs almost ALWAYS go to the deeper route choice as they are supposed to do. Then he sent pressure if needed to make sure they got to the QB BEFORE our WRs could get deep enough to possibly be in position to catch the ball on their routes. He gambled that he could get to the QB every time...and that his DBs could hold up on the deep routes often with Safely help over the top. He was right. It resulted in 10sacks which is the most I have ever seen in my 49years.

What is much worse than that is he put on film what they did for every other Def Coordinator to see exactly how to shut down this offense with this Oline being weak in the middle. Barn and Arky probably dont have the personnel to do it. Bama likely does...and you can bet your butt that Oklahoma defense has the chops to do the same. Even SC has a really good Dline...and they get a Bye week right before we go to Columbia and will have 2 weeks to prepare while our team will be beat to crap from 4 straight SEC teams with Bama being the week before. CJH is gonna have to really change up his passing game and add more quick passes or we are screwed IMO. Joey Aguilar likely wins that game yesterday because he will throw up deep 50/50 balls and has a quick release. Freshman version of FB does not have those attributes or attitude. Not yet anyway.

They did try some short passes that Brandon worm balled it about 3 passes when straight to the dirt, receiver never had a chance to make a play on the ball. The D played great as did Texas D and the whole O stunk it up, even the TD pass was a way under throw that the receiver came back and got, good play by Matthews. Also Texas O was not very good and Arch looked pretty average, they dropped to #4 in Coaches Poll.
Yeah but after what i seen a couple of Texas players do after they made a play. They are as classless as their coach.

What's insane to me is that in a season where about 80% of adult UT fans were thinking our record would be 7-5 to 9-3...with 8wins being most likely...theres the usual brigade of drunken morons on here crapping on our team for losing by 3pts to the #1 team in the nation. As if texas wasn't gonna be 1 of the losses on every sane adults schedule for this year??

Bunch of negative azzholes and people who cant hold their liquor. Theres a reason the vast majority of posters on this site avoid the FF...especially after a loss. Sadly the result of that is an echo chamber for the ignorant and emotional fools who behave like 12yo girls. Its disgusting to me. Yes, that was the worst Oline performance in my 49years of life. Elarbee has shown that other than Perry he cannot develop talent from HS to SEC starter level. We may need a new Oline coach this off-season. That doesnt make our team, our coaches, or our players garbage though. I hate the NegaVols almost as much as I hate Flarda and the Pups. GBO

**also the Vegas o/u has been at 7.5wins forever. I am sure they counted preseason top3 Texas as one of the 4/5 losses. Some here act amazed we didn't win. Muppets.

No QB should ever have to not take that many sacks. Yeah he could have thrown the ball into the stands all day long and the result would have been the same. Our OL isn't just bad this year, they have never ever been great under Elarbee, and they have been very bad nearly four years in a row. Milton has the best of them. Sampson made them look much better than they were, while Nico spent most of the season in his ass or behind the chains because the OL would commit stupid penalties to destroy drives EVERY GAME, last year was bad, but Aguilar was a very quick trigger, this is the worst they have been.

Your OL should never be bailed out by the QB or RB. Your OL sets the tone. That is one thing that made Fulmer so successful. He understood that.

Agree, you'd think Sark after getting booted for his drinking problems and then getting a 2nd chance, he'd be a little more savvy with his deportment and answers and guiding young men. The LB is great player but must have an IQ way below 70s. Just think if that was your kid or even he was from your hometown and he represented like that, using a thugish 3rd grade antic, just a sad state for our society.

Agree 1000%. In fact, I saw a automobile maker commercial last night that featured Simons. I will never buy a car/truck from Dodge / Stellanis Brands as a result. That's all I can do.

First of all, FIRE ELARBEE

Second, FB did not play a great game. He needed to throw it into tight anticipatory windows. However, he is an 18 year old who just saw his first real high calibre defense. Now he knows how high the bar is for competing at the top of this league. I hope he takes this loss in stride and understands that he has to have more confidence in his ability and honestly needs some swagger. He can make those throws if he steps up and just rips it.

The mental game got to him though. Dirty pockets + pockets that are getting pushed right into his face got to him. The repeat sacks got to him.

3.9 seconds to release the ball on a pass play is above National Average of 2.6 seconds. Not all the issues was OL and pass protection.
THIS IS A STUPID STAT

This does NOT take into account your OL getting pushed into your face, arms out, OL getting whipped, etc. Also, very little discourse on our WRs getting little seperation against Man defense.

The OL was definitely bad. The playcalling, I'm still scratching my head on that. No quick plays to help your QB?

Faizon was awful, but he is a kid, and the playcalling and OL didn't give him much of a chance to succeed.
0 turnovers and 1 TD pass is not awful for a young QB. Didn't play great, but I wouldn't call him awful yet.

I said no. OL was bad, no doubt, but the QB really struggled as well. It takes all positions to make the offense hum. I also wonder if there was anything the staff could have done to help Faizon, like rolling out of the pocket, screen passes, etc. They just seem to always run the ball up the middle no matter what.

We might be SC and Arky. Other than that? Hardly. Allowing 10ish sacks per game in the SEC equals zero wins.
You should bet everything you own (and even take out loans to get extra money) against the Vols. That’s 6 big losses for you to make a killing on. Billionaires club, here you come!

Certified ball knower over here.

The main point of my argument is that the mental game is real. It is very easy for us as fans on the couch to dissect stats, but few ever consider the speed of the game. Average time to throw is a stupid stat when you can clearly see Texas's defense 1. pushing the pocket into Faizon's face and 2. coverages. How does that stat actually show WRs being open enough for a throw?

I strongly believe Faizon got shaken a little bit. The speed, the sacks, the repeat hits, etc. Did he hold the ball too long on some plays? Absolutely. There were some windows there. Did the OL get whooped? ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Couldn't get the run game going at all to take any pressure off Faizon either. That is 100% on the OL, Elarbee, and Heupel for not adjusting to give Faizon SOMETHING to work off of.

Texas's defense got to him mentally, along with the speed and excitement of the matchup. The kid was playing against high schoolers this time last year. He just saw the best defense of his life. We cannot expect success if we put it all on Faizon this early in his career.

I think it was the combo of the OL being piss poor and Faizon just not being ready to take on such an elite defense.

Faizon will be fine, but the OL? It’s not going to have any chance of improving unless we show Elarbee the door.
Unfortunately OL play precedes qb play. So Faizon won’t be better if the OL can’t get right. OL HAS to be better, and in a hurry. No more warm up games to iron out the wrinkles.

That was my opinion, and I'll not retract it. But, what I kept coming back to as my basis is when he did have to scramble it seemed he had just as many chances to just shoot up in the pocket and get what he could, atleast back to the line, instead of retreating and taking big losses when there was no chance to juke and escape. Will not contest that all those split second decisions came from a blistered O line all game. But, he could have helped everyone out more just going north rather than retreating 10-12 yards. Scambling and making a play out of nothing may work against GT, but not TX. He did miss some reads where he could have made some passes as I also felt there were certain pressures he could have pulled the trigger and backed that rush off. Those are just things he'll need to learn from film this week and correct as soon as possible cause the rest of the season is big games. All in all for his first game of that magnitude, he did OK. By comparison he only had 50 less passing yards than Manning, so our D basically did the same thing to him and he's a veteran.

An interesting tid bit from the booth team though. Texas and UT are 2 of hte 4 youngest rosters in FBS this year.

Brandon is not doing that well. He is holding the ball and seems afraid to throw unless the player is wide open. The last TD was the only time I thought he threw it with the receiver covered. It was the right throw to a one on one coverage. Coach is not helping though with no short throws in his route combo. He never screens or uses the back out of the backfield.
