Clemson is doing it the right way. They have over 40 players test positive to date.

They've seemingly invited multiple Covid19 folks to hang out with them in the weight/training rooms, dining hall, sleeping dorms and locker room to infect as many players as possible before the season starts.

My prediction is 2020 National Champs as they will not have a player miss a start due to having had everyone contract Covid19 prior to the season and herd immunity develop.

Other. The season may be cancelled but for absolutely no good reason at all.

Several weeks ago people were talking about how contagious it was. I reminded them that even under extremely close conditions like ships that only 20% of a population contracted the virus. I predicted the rate would be under 10% and possibly much under. I haven't checked other states but they've been aligning roughly on most numbers. As of yesterday, MO had a 5.5% infection rate. Assuming well over half of the population has been exposed which is very likely due to St Louis. It is unlikely to reach 10%.

The virus may be weakening according to some. Severe cases appear to be dropping. The last death rates I saw were dropping. So for the vast majority of the country... people are getting mild and asymptomatic cases. Are those really a reason to keep people from attending OUTSIDE events?

Well, looks like the overwhelming majority agree on absolutely nothing....

looks like 2/3rds agree that there will be mutually agreed cancellations of the season or forced complete cancellations of the season.

THE SEASON CANNOT BE CANCELLED BECAUSE THE SCHOOLS CANNOT AFFORD IT!

What does your statement even mean? Are you saying all the colleges and universities will close down without football? Surely not. You must have meant that these schools will have to shut down some or most of their athletics programs without the influx of revenue from football. Any of these scenarios would be a bad/sad commentary on our educational system and our culture if we are so dependent on fan entertainment for a school’s economic existence. Perhaps it’s time That colleges wean themselves from this foolishness. The players are really professionals anyway who should be paid like minor league players in baseball. If they were being paid and didn’t have to go to class as “student athletes“ we wouldn’t be having this poll.

don't know about you guys, but I don't feel so good about even thinking that the NCAA can make the decision about whether we play or not!

As someone working in Public Health, I have recently flipped from "do the season shortened with strict guidelines" to "cancel the season altogether."

Just way too much spread going on, people just don't want to take enough precautions.

Sucks, I was really looking forward to betting being legal this year, but health should come first.

The season should at best be delayed to Spring 2021. The SEC could start playing as early as mid February.

Based on what? The virus being over by February ? The New Rushed Vaccine stopping it cold? The new rushed vaccine actually working? A sudden breakthrough in treatment and curing covid? JUST Take temps at the gates, Require masks, and test Players and Coaching personnel . Temps over 99 get pulled aside, and you carry on as usual. IF you are infected, you Will have a temp. 100%. Once again, the death rate is .01. Not a pandemic worthy of shutting everything down.

And if the season is played and athletes die, they won't be able to afford the hundreds of millions they'll have to pay in settling lawsuits.
I actually met 1 person that’s been diagnosed with COVID19 officially. Realize I work within my company and network of a population of 35,000.
Let’s stop football when the flu outbreaks this fall.

When they’re operating budgets call for cancelling sports all together. It should tell you how much in the bank they really have. It cost schools millions just in the b-ball stopping. What do you think if h gets cut if football doesn’t happen? Fulmer already said all seats available in Neyland. Tells me he’s nervous also. UT athletic budget has been cut by 14 mill this year.

Considering that most colleges, 90%+ are staffed fully with socialist, left leaning, liberal minded types, I would say there is a huge panic wave coming this fall as we near November.
I read this as...
most colleges are staffed with highly educated individuals with common sense that have the ability to think outside of their own existence and put the safety and welfare of others into their decision making process.

I think that will be very difficult for a variety of reasons. One thing that would be very different would be the number of players that wouldn’t play in order to prepare for the Draft. I doubt Trevor Lawrence is gonna risk getting hurt a few months before his debut at the #1 overall pick. That’s just a small example of how difficult it would be to manage it with the players even wanting to play .

If you could start it in January and try something that I heard about that’s being floated in the B1G you might make it work. Basically having pods for the conference teams in domed stadiums. So some teams would play in Indianapolis starting at noon - 8 pm and also Minneapolis (lol year right ) . Maybe we could try something like that with New Orleans and Atlanta? I don’t know, but that was a plan I heard about.

I’m sure there are tons of off the wall ideas that are being floated. I don’t think anything is off the table because no football is a doomsday scenario for almost all athletic departments. Nobody has a financial plan in place for this. I’m gonna go with a combo of B and D because I can’t see not having football without a serious, serious creative fight from P5 administrators, commissioners, and TV people.

There are a lot of smart people that have been and will be working on this around the clock. Too many on this board (not meaning you) are seeing this in only black and white and there is a helluva lot of gray area to be discovered whether people want to realize that or not.

The season may well start up with everything as close to normal as possible, but the first court case of some individual suing a university because they (allegedly) caught the 'rona at a ball game will likely provide more definitive answers on how it concludes. Basically, the legal departments of the various universities (as well as the athletic associations) are probably sweating bullets. It seems like a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" scenario in a way, but I'm not by any means an attorney.

All I know is that this season will be the first in 10 years or so that my dad and I won't be attending any games for various reasons, and that's a bummer. This virus isn't the only reason by any means, but it cinched the decision for us. As we've said in December more times that not during the past decade, "perhaps next year". Go Vols.

I think many of you probably saw where Fulmer said they are planning for a full stadium, apparently it is easier to downsize if necessary than up-size. Anyway, Fulmer recommended everyone who wants football this fall to wear their mask and distance when out in public. I would certainly like to see the Vols play this fall, expecting we will have a good team, so I agree with Fulmer's request, lets work to beat this by being properly prepared when we go out in public. GBO.

That’s interesting. The small business I own has about 2000 clients, and I’ve lost 6 of them to the virus. More than I can count have been infected. One of our vendor reps lost their infant child to this disease. Countless families who can’t even bury their dead. Guess I’m just perpetuating the hoax. Who’s personal experience carries more weight? Why?

Thanks for explaining. Again, colleges and universities cannot and should not be so dependent on what amounts to professional entertainment for their financial health. Look at the quandary they are in. I am speaking about all higher education, not just UT. That said, there has to be a remediation plan for now given schools are so dependent on the revenue. The only choice they may have is to push the season into spring and hope for a breakthrough solution to this virus.

If football can't be played, obviously students won't be sitting in classrooms. If students aren't in classrooms, lack of athletic revenue will be the least of many universities concerns.

As they say in business; Location , Location, Location. And there is the FACT that Many deaths resulting from Other Causes ARE listed as covid. I know not ONE single person who has contracted covid; and very few people I ask on the street do ; and those that do; say it was mild. It is not a Hoax, but it is overblown; Purposely.

Guess I don’t follow the location comment. The virus has initially been more concentrated in urban areas, then spreads to rural ones. Guess a gypsy life is ideal?

Rather liberal use of the word fact. It’s ok. No need to talk specifically about Florida’s reporting practices... Sincere apology if that’s too political for the ff.

My whole point is that personal anecdotes are irrelevant here. I don’t know that the answer is completely quarantining all aspects of our economic and social norms when a face mask and some common decency seem to be effective. But it’s clear to anyone paying attention that it is going to take a serious, focused effort on all of our parts to protect those most vulnerable. That isn’t a noble pursuit, it is the humane one.

Full disclosure, I live in Queens, and I only spoke about the impact of COVID on my business relationships for a reason. I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind. I just pray none of you have to see this virus through my lens. To completely quarantine while watching your business suffer is bad enough, but when you add true loss in to the formula... All of this seems so insignificant.

That’s a good point that no one wants to see happen at UT or any campus. My son is starting his last year of his master’s degree program at UT this fall.

It is too early to speculate. If the the politicians continues to refuse to follow the advise of the politicians, we are likely to have football games and the pandemic will continue to kills people and other will suffer from the increasing consequences which are associated with this virus. At the ripe old age of 81, I doubt that I will attend any games this Fall and I will likely never buy season tickets again because I will not support an Organization which does not respect the safety and well being of its fans. If they feel football has to be played for the revenue or any other reason, The games can be played without fans and still be televised and the revenue resulting from TV will still be substantial. The coaches will be paid, maybe at reduced amount but still at a level which allow them to still be paid in the upper 3-5 % of the population. Players will also be able to show their wares and be drafter by the NFL which will still be able to exist because of TV revenues. If, or when, EFFECTIVE vaccines and treatments are developed, games can be played as they have been in the past.

Golf has now played to TV audiances only for the last two weeks. I t appears that the players are still playing the same game and making the same great or not so great shots. Again the purse may be reduced, but they too will contiue to make millions by playing a game.
