Brian France said that Nascar will be changing the policy of allowing Cup regulars drive in the Nationwide series for 2011. Cup guys will be still allowed to race in NW but the policy will make more seats for younger guys.

I'm definitely for this. I think a good way to do it is give any Cup driver who plans on running in any Nationwide races a limited number of events they can enter a year, say 10-15 races per driver. Each driver can select the number of events and which specific events they wish to enter. Each event would have about five or so Cup drivers and every week would be a different set of drivers except for one or two that choose to appear in consecutive events on their list. Also, no Cup drivers would be allowed at stand alone events. This formula also would give the championship to a Nationwide series only driver.

That would do wonders for ticket sales.

That is a flaw in this plan that I've thought of before. Most people who buy tickets to stand alone events do so to see the 2-3 Cup drivers that show up that are running for the championship. Unfortunately you could pick the winner of the race out of these couple of drivers before it even starts. The way things are now, Nationwide only drivers don't have much of a chance of winning races when any Cup drivers are at events. At least at stand alone races, we would be guaranteed to see a different winner than the handful of Cup drivers that dominate the series every week.

There is the rub. This is why I say just do not award points to Cup drivers, then they will still race, but not every event like Edwards, Busch and Kesolowski do now. The Nationwide Champ will be a regular in the series.

It's a double edged sword. On the one hand, I agree it would be better to see the Nationwide only drivers win the majority of the races. On the other hand, the promoters have to sell the tickets. Speaking for myself, as someone who lives in Middle Tennessee, and usually goes to both NNS races at Nashville, I would not be willing to spend that money to go watch a bunch of drivers that I've never heard of.

That's not a bad idea.

exactly.

in order for a place like Nashville to survive, they HAVE to have those names show up.
