I don't know about his criteria, but his worst nightmare is this making the national spotlight...and he's having a bad dream now.

I may not agree with him, but I will defend his right to say it...I do believe in this case, he should be protected by the First Amendment, but I'm no Constitutional scholar.

how would the 1st amendment apply? He will get voted out of office if he doesn't step down. Free speech doesn't mean no consequences

Not sure I really see the issue here. So a guy voices his displeasure with the POTUS... like that's never happened before... ever... in all of history... no one should insult a POTUS.

Like I said, I'm not constitutional scholar or anything. My line of thought that holding a special election just to oust the guy because he said a racist comment would be a violation of his free speech, but I dunno. carry on.

so the people should have no recourse to remove elected officials when they disagree? He won't be prosecuted for anything he's simply having to deal with the people he is supposed to answer to

public officials should be eligible for removal by voters for any reason at all if they feel they are not being properly represented

He's the police chief and obviously racist. He'll be fired for cause.

Reading is hard.

CNN spoke with Wolfeboro Police Chief Stuart Chase, who said that Copeland can’t be "fired" since he’s an elected official. Chase told CNN that Copeland can either resign, or the board of commissioners can move to recall his election and hold a special election to replace him.

My mistake.

They should recall him.

If some of the Obozo administration can get a free pass on some of their racist comments, why should a no name police chief apologize for his comments?

He shouldn't apologize if that's what he truly believes.

It's more bothersome to me when someone gives one of those half-assed "I apologize IF my comments offended anyone" statements.

I give the old coot credit for holding firm to his outdated beliefs...at least we know where he stands.
