With all the threads going on, I thought it would be nice to provide a thread ONLY to share key points from practice today.

We are going to see how this works out, but ONLY POST INTERESTING TIDBITS or qutoes from practice NO DISCUSSION. For discussion, go to this thread: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/75278-practice-updates.html

We are going to try and make this a reference thread and see how it works. I'm looking for things like this.

Dennis Rogan practiced the entire day at free safety.

"I don't know another way to do it," he said. "I just think that's how you build a team that's going to be physical, going to be able to run the ball and going to be able to play such a tough schedule. We're very physical in the way that we practice. We have relentless pursuit after the ball because the No. 1 thing is turnover margin. That's how you win and lose games faster than anything else."

I'm sure this will be a disaster but I'm willing to give it a try.

You guys feel free to jump in any time. :)

11 on 11 just started... 1st pass Crompton threw = worm burner. All in the dirt. Second pass attempt = sack.

Stephens threw a good first pass and then got sacked twice.

Crompton has not looked very good to me at all. Did throw a completion to GJ for 10 yds.

Not sure if its been mentioned. But Ben Martin is out with an air cast on his right leg.

Four Vols got work returning punts, including three newcomers. Teague, Rogers, and Richardson joined Gerald Jones during special teams drills.

I heard teague looked good...

also, heard that several different formations were used to isolate nuke and that he got the ball a lot and looks extremely fast as expected. Expect him to contribute a lot...

hardesty, oku, and brown reportedly looked great as well, especially hardesty

- Wideout Brandon Warren was stripped after catching a quick slant pass. Coordinator Jim Chaney stopped the workout at this point and made the entire first-team offense run a lap around the practice field.

And look at that great catch by Hancock.

This is exciting! I'm lovin' it!

“Marsalis Teague did a great job at three different positions,” Jones said. “He made great plays at all three positions. Another player that impressed me was (tailback) David Oku. And I’m not just saying that because he’s from my hometown. He did really well today and I’m proud of him.’’
-- Dave Hooker

- Ballyhooed freshman tailback Bryce Brown, running wide to his left, stopped abruptly, made a sharp cut to the inside and accelerated way faster than you'd expect of a 6-1, 215-pounder. Fellow freshman David Oku showed great cutting ability and burst, as well.

Several times in Tuesday's workout Berry raced 30 yards or more downfield to overtake receivers and strip the ball from them when they relaxed their grip on the ball, thinking they were in the clear.

In spite of a cast on his left wrist, Gerald Jones competed full-speed in Tuesday's opening workout at Haslam Field. He ran some good routes. He showcased some sharp cuts. He made some nifty catches. In short, he looked just like the Gerald Jones that led Tennessee with 30 catches last fall ... except for the cast.

Scout.com: Gerald Jones beats the odds

Yet with the cast, things are a bit different.

“I’m still not supposed to drop any but it’s going to happen so I’ve got to deal with it,” said Jones, who still punishes himself with 10 pushups after each drop.

Ok, since no one else is doing this, I'll give it a try......

"We'll be here all night, we have so much film to watch," Kiffin said. "There are so many new players here that we don't know alot about yet."

What a workhorse....

The challenge for two closely watched players at the quarterback position--junior college transfer Nick Lamaison and former minor-league baseball player Mike Rozier--isn't retention but learning from the offense from scratch.

The two have generated plenty of interest due to the nature of the position, but Kiffin seemed to temper the expectations of fans in assessing their readiness to realistically compete for playing time this August.

"They could barely get a snap today or get the snap count down. We basically had to call the snap count in the huddle for them. They both have a long ways to go, as would anybody coming in on their first day," Kiffin said when asked about Lamaison and Rozier.

Wes Brown looked like he had been through the wear and tear of a season already when he took to the practice field Tuesday afternoon. Brown is sporting two knee braces and has been battling knee problems since last season.

Brown could not finish Tuesday's workout as his ailing knees forced him out of the line up. The popular veteran was clearly frustrated and his teammates said getting him back healthier is important to this defense.

I'm bumping this for feedback? Good idea in the future or no? Did anyone find this useful?

KEEP IT! Great thread, instead of having to go thru 5-10 different threads, you can come to this thread for all the need-to-know info. It's like Monster Ballads, all the good stuff with none of the B/S.

Very useful. This is the only place on the interwebz that you can find compiled info from all sources. It's good to see all the varying opinions.

I love the idea but without discussion you'll need to sticky it. My guess is that those of us most thirsty to hear this type of update are at least a couple hours out of Knoxville so we won't have anything to contribute.
