Before my blood pressure hits 200 during game day.
We have been outscored 61 to 17 in the 1st quarter. 98 to 58 in the 1st half. If we scored 1/3 or 1/2 the points we score in the 2nd half in the 1st half, none of these games would be even close. Butch said last year we need to learn how to finish. Looks like this year, we need to learn how to start. Any thoughts why this is happening? Go Vols!

This week it was the fumbles. We moved the ball better than they did the whole game. Our defense was better too. The fumbles are what cost us.

It is called football. Seriously though if you watch other games, not just Tennessee, you will see wild swings of point scoring in at lot of games. It is becoming very common for teams to get up by 14+ points only to see the other team come roaring back.

Nobody knows why its happening. If Tennessee could even play 3 quarters completely, we are undefeated easily and comfortably.

Fumbles are killing us. Ball security has to be stressed over everything else. When a ball is on the ground just fall on it. Don't try to pick it up and make a play. When a defender is close put two hands on the ball. Keep the ball tucked into your chest. One less fumble and we win this game. Sad that such an amazing offensive performance was nullified by bad ball handling

I felt like yesterday was the first game we looked awake in the first half, but the turnovers kept holding us back. Prior to yesterday, it always seemed like poor execution was our kryptonite in the first half. I believe if we didn't have all the fumbles we would of been up by 1-2 touchdowns by halftime, and then it would of been lights out with how we play in the 2nd half. We'll get it together.

The fumbles ultimately coast us a 28 point swing, Two fumbles Tennessee lost in the red area would most likely been 14 points at least 6 and 2 fumbles Tennessee lost and they scored 14 points off of. Beating a dead horse now but they have to clean that up this week!

Dobbs sure hurt trying to pick up fumbles rather than JUST FALL ON THE BALL. I know he was trying to make good from bad, but he should know better. Most of the time it just makes bad, worse.

I'm sorry but I think you guys are being thick or maybe just not watching. You don't just step on the field look at the opponent and say..."please move aside. I would like to step in the end zone."

It's war games. You have to set up the big play. You feel it out, look for openings, learn the opponents game plan, make adjustments, then plan your attack and then execute it.

lol are you watching? So that's how we have to play all the time...,meanwhile the other team says "Hey, while you analyze what I'm doing, I'm gonna put 21 points on the board. Good Luck!"

Uh, the coaching staff has expressed concerns about this very issue, so it's not like this is their game plan

...and yes we should be able to just step on the field and put points on the board. it's called film study and game planning

Meanwhile we are sitting at 4-1 with no less than ten injuries to star players, a team composed of half true freshmen, with one of the toughest schedules in the country. If you want to play high school ball I can point you to about 50 teams that are not UT.

When a fumble happens, the players reacts on instinct. It's a split second reaction. You don't really have time to think about it.

I got a better idea for the guy carrying the ball. Hold onto it, and avoid the bad. This team may end up having more fumbles than dropped passes.

CBJ's haircut is high and tight just like securing a football. What else can he do to make the individuals understand?

What does any of that have to do with game planning and starting fast?...nothing.

Teams we play go through attrition just like we do, play freshmen just like we do, have tough schedules just like we do, put up big points early just like we don't do...

Oh man, I have been trying to forget that play. If he just falls on it there, likely we score and..

I just gasped "why" 3 or 4 times.
Couldn't say anything else.

And they don't win games, but we do. There is a reason for that. Debord calls great freaking games. The guy is very smart.

Let's just look at the last 2 years as a progression by the VOLS; last year we started hot on offense because we had to, defense played soft due to lack of talent and depth. This year the defense is much better and the offense "feels" out the game as they go, knowing the defense will make a stop when needed. Even though I hate the loss, yesterday turned the corner for team 120! The offense pressed the whole game and therfore made mistakes they wouldn't normally make. For the Bama game I see this team putting it all together; we beat BAMA in all phases of the game and prove to ALL that we are back AND back for good!

The reason we were behind this game is a completely different reason than the previous games. We moved the ball all day. Previous games we started off slow on O and D. On this game we fumbled inside the 5yd line twice. And then we gave them 14 on two fumbles inside their 20. That is a 28 point swing in their favor. We didn't start slow this game! We started fast and played hard and fast. Lost the ball fighting for extra yards and trying to make a great return in a tight space. Secure the ball and we win the game by more than 14!

Also I watched the last INT and I was dogging Dobbs at the game for a horrible pass. But after the replay it appears it was a bad route by Wolf. He ran towards the safety instead of the hash marks. Two steps to the right and it was most likely a TD. Either way that pass was way too risky for that time of the game. Same play was a TD against FL but it has to be ran and thrown perfect. This time it wasn't. Great game. I had a blast at Kyle field. Go Vols!

The first games of the year we had some o line problems because it was rearranged right before the season started and it took them 3-4 games to come together, but it also takes a minute for our passing game to get hot. We have to get the receivers on the same page with Dobbs and we can only do that through repetitive strikes. It's a result of Dobbs being very accurate only after he gets going. But he does get going. He and Debord work together very well getting the offense warmed up. Like an engine. Once it gets going it's powerful. It has to all gel and come together through the process of playing the game though. That's just who we are. Get used to it. By the way, we have had some pretty good first quarters in a few games this year. We got off to a fast start against Ohio even though people like to say we didn't. I saw some hot offense in that trick play we pulled when We passed to Dobbs in the end zone yesterday. We are better than we look. That's why I've always said we are "sneaky, sneaky good" this year. We are constantly pressing, pressing, pressing with our offense, always setting up the big play, then when nobody is looking a receiver is streaking down the field. That's the way it's supposed to happen.
