you guys are crazy the majority of the media is in the north east and has no reason to favor the pac-10. just because they don't drink the SEC-aide like everyone who grows up in the south that doesn't mean they dislike the sec. How often does a media person refer to another league as superior to the SEC? 5% of the time? Is it even that high? You guys get PLENTY of respect.

Agreed, but that is a recent phenomenon for good reason. Had the Gators not beaten the Bucks last year, the media would have never been so bold...otherwise Auburn would have gotten their shot in '04.

It has really taken Florida's win plus the emergence of LSU, Auburn and Georgia (and Spurrier at SC) to earn the respect the SEC has gotten. In all fairness, it has only recently started to seperate itself.

Although I can't prove it, there is evidence to support the idea of media darlings. Think about it, there are a lot more viewers in Pac-10 and Big-10 areas. More viewers means more advertising dollars. We are lucky that there are no major College football teams in the north (and yes I do not consider Syracuse a Major College Football Team). Think about it with other sports, who do the networks want in the World Series (New York and California teams), more people watching/more money. No sportswriter that votes is able to see every team play every Saturday and probably wouldn't, even if they could. So they watch highlights read box scores and rate the teams according to status quo. In other words, they jump on the "bandwagons" of media "darlings".

Case inpoint the Heisman vote that no VOL will ever, ever. ever forgit Payton was a double slam dunk, until the media darlings got together and did their thing.
