Please explain Gilbert’s theatrics at 2b

Completely off topic but I was looking at the numbers of strike outs compared to walks. In SEC play, through 6 games…Gilbert is 7k and 7bb. That’s a telling stat.

And the emotion at the plate is under control. I don’t care what he does at 2B.

I love dingers but in my opnion, he's an even better hitter this year....manufacturing hits, going opposite field, drawing walks.... I'm sure dingers will come if somebody has the nerve to put one over the plate.

I guess the complainer didn’t see the Ole Miss dude who hit the 3 run HR Sunday. He almost missed second based yelling back at his teammates.

It’s how they play college baseball these days. Ole men need to watch reruns if they don’t like it. I’m 65 and I think it’s fine.

Another staple shenanigan is the Vols' extra-base hit celebration, a Gilbert creation: sort of a cover-your-face kneel-down to the baseball gods once you get on second or third base.

Gilbert, his face and cheeks covered in eye black and sporting the Terminator shades, laughs when asked to explain it all.

"Honestly, it doesn't mean anything," he said. "There's no meaning behind it. We just made it up. It just kind of evolved. It's weird, just something that's funny. It's different. That's why we do it."

And, yes, he's well aware that such antics make him and his teammates a target.

"I like competition. I like when people are coming after me," Gilbert said. "It makes the game more fun."

How bold, brash Tennessee is taking college baseball by storm

Teams might think twice knowing the payback could come from Joyce, who has just enough lack of control so you're not completely sure he intended to.....

I take issue with the Joyce lacks just enough control statement. If Joyce was directed to hit him, he could. If they asked him to brush the batter back, he could. But he has control, and for a guy that regularly throws 99-103, he has fantastic control.

8.2 innings
He's faced about 32 batters (I don't have the exact number)
0.00 ERA
3 walks (one of which was issued by the ump that took it in the face and registered a concussion)
1 HBP
14 Strikeouts

I don't think Joyce lacks control...

As for Gilbert? I hear the stuff he does is completely made up and an "Homage to the baseball Gods" (which fits his on field wacky personage)

I think Gibby is a whack job, crazy kid. But he’s our whack job. 😎

All teams have antics. Even MLB teams. It's nothing new nowadays. Pitchers are some of the cockiest players out there. Look at the Ole Miss P from Friday and they were getting beat 12-1 lol.
It’s true. The more you watch college ball the more you see these celebrations on second.

Shhhh! Have you not watched Major League? Everybody knows if you can top 100 mph you don’t have control. We want everybody to stand in there taking pitches thinking he can’t throw 3 strikes before 4 balls 😉

If he keeps hitting .700 with guys on or whatever crazy number its at right now...I don't care if he puts on the Mary Poppins one man band setup and plays a whole song at second.
