As you will see in the post, Wes did not have a life insurance policy. Please contribute to support his wife and children. Please step up VolNation and let's try to make a collective substantial difference for their fUTure needs!

RIP Wes Rucker

Certainly not a contest and even a small amount can add up to go a long way. Shannon Terry with 10k, Scott Van Pelt with 5k, RockyTop Insider with 5k, Clay Travis 1k (if Richard is Clay) and several other large contributors. Throw in all the others making their generous donations (all amounts are generous), let's continue to step up to the plate for a true VFL!!

RIP Wes Rucker

The stroke that Wes had about 10 years ago likely made the cost of life insurance prohibitive. On top of that his son has had several kidney related surgeries for an ongoing issue. Kick in what you can. Sad day for all VOLS.

I am sure every little bit will help in a situation like this. Just awesome to see people like SVP and RTI donate such large amounts. I would have never thought SVP would donate that amount of money.

Keep it up Vol Nation. Money doesn't bring him back but helping ease the financial burden as much as we can.

Something tells me Wes would not be surprised
People are certainly stepping up in a big way. Let's remember that Wes was only 43 and if his life continued on this earth over time, he would have worked at least another 20 years, at least. Replacing 20+ years of lost income is a better way of looking at this since he didn't have life insurance. Right now, the donations are nearing 300k. Over a 20 year period, that is only 15k per year. This isn't a realistic way to look at it though, because she'll have funeral expenses, bills and raising 2 children potentially alone. The more we can raise to lesson the long term financial hardship, the more it will help her and the kids.

Scott Van Pelt is the man! As well as his former boss Shannon! So nice seeing people coming together during this terrible time. I just did my small part. Praying for his little boy I couldnt imagine what this little one is thinking with his Daddy not coming back home at this age. Praying for his entire family.

Does anyone know if they still take a percentage of the total?

I’ve always thought that was wrong especially in cases like this.

No

They give you the option
Not sure about when the recipient receives the funds, I hope they get 100 percent. When I donated, I was asked if I want to tip GoFundMe. I did, so hopefully she receives the amount I donated and then the company is getting paid for providing the service with my tip amount?

Done.

As much as Vol Nation pisses me off at times (much like a family), there's no better fan base in the country, and stuff like this and ZZ's house fire amplify that point.

Please share the GoFundMe link. I know some may not give maybe due to the large sum that has been reached. Remember, he had no life insurance policy and has a wife, child and she is pregnant. I have no idea what kind of income loss she'll have, but I'm guessing Wes didn't pick journalism to get rich.

Financial planners recommend 10 to 12 times your annual income and adding more for each child's future potential education needs. I am no financial planner and not an expert, but I'd say the 548k that has been raised is equivalent to roughly a modest life insurance policy for her long term financial needs to replace his lost income and for the kids. May actually be on the low end, so hopefully people will continue to contribute.

It is a generous sum, but certainly not anywhere near a level where she can live a life of luxury.

It is a privilege to help others. Let’s keep going. Every bit will help.
