One thing that I have seen over and over recently is how the coaching staff is emphasizing the need to get our playmakers on the field. It is refreshing to see this, and I hope that it isn't merely lip service. Those of us that have been following the VOLS for a while are still burned by the Mark Levine / Jamal Lewis decision in the '97 Florida game, and other similar situations where freshmen with outstanding talent sat on the bench too long.

Maybe the sign of turning a new leaf was '04 when Fulmer played 2 freshmen QBs, and it looks to be continuing this year. Time will tell how much our newcomers play, but the way the game is evolving freshmen/first year players are being counted on more and more (see Florida and Tebow and Harvin as prime examples).

Even with the recent decision to leave Berry on the defensive side of the ball for the time being, I am excited at the prospect of getting immediate contributions from G Jones, O'Neal, Ben Martin, Berry and possible Vinson.

For us to be a consistent top 10 program again, we've got to get these top rated recruits in a position where they can contribute, early and often. Getting a lot of mileage out of that awesome '07 recruiting class maybe, just maybe, could help get us back to the top of the SEC this year.
