Players will fill out chart to make sure they improve by: Drew Edwards

My god, it has gotten this bad.

Erik Ainge:
"If you look at the wins and losses, yeah, it's similar right now," Ainge said Monday, two days after the Vols lost 41-17 at unranked Alabama. "From a team standpoint and what we're doing and the energy and everything around here, it's nothing like that

"It's like we're playing good, but we're not playing good enough to win in some big ballgames. And we're making some mistakes for whatever reasons that are costing us some wins. I don't think it's anything like 2005."

Exactly, it's like......but not.

I think they should stop interviewing any of the players. They just repeat themselves every week.

I wish they would interview Hardesty more, he's about the only guy on that team that seems to be the only one fired up 'round here. Even if that is because his position coach forgot who he was for one of the biggest games of the year.

Ainge, on the other hand, Ainge. Great physically really lacks emotionally in a leadership role.

This is a situation like in grade school. Teacher has students that don't do their homework or pay attention in class. So, rather than have a back bone and punish the kids individually the teacher addresses the whole class, basically punishing the entire class.

Rather than call out the guys that are not trying to get better Fulmer is doing this chart thing. He doesn't want anyone to hate him.

I get that feeling too. I was a young'un when Majors was fired, but everything I have deduced from this site and old stories from my dad I really like Major's demeanor more than Fulmer's "let's not make anyone mad" ways.

I was in my early teens when Majors was fired. One thing Fulmer based his coaching demeanor off of was not to be like Majors. Majors was like a army general, He would chew ass, coaches and players, on the practice field, on sideline, or at a local resturant. Fulmer's coaching style was that of a "players coach" and that was one reason why he got the job. Players loved playing for him.

Keep one thing in mind...you have to have DISCIPLINE. Someone HAS to be the boss. Can't let the inmates run the jail.

In 05 UT lost close games to Ala and Fl. It could be really rough down the stretch this year. SC and KY are a lot better then they were in 05.

After we lose to SC, they'll scrap that idea and move to the more effective ' give yourself a gold star on the chalkboard ' idea to get them fired up....

I wonder if the coaches have to do this too, that might be interesting....

I agree, Things could get really rough down the strech. I think the KY game is going to be rough myself. I can see it now Randy Sanders is going to love EVERY min. of that game.

Good point! Players make the coaches fill out a chart. Did you(coaches) have a good gameplan, did you stick to the gameplan, play calling-did you do your best, did you call the right defense, call the right blitz....etc. I think Montario would love to see that chart. :birgits_giggle:

Fill out a chart.......shut up already!

Go to bed earlier, get up earlier........freaking clueless!

More important than the Bama game........blasphemy!!!

Ainge, why don't you get your uncle to whine to the refs, throw 200 4 yard passes in practive every day, give yourself a gold sticky star, & call JC and tell him he'll be playing the final three quarters of the rest of the games to get ready for next year....no, on second thought....don't even speak to him.

Geesh this is revealing....leadership, it's missing.

This morning I filled out my chart, gave myself a gold star and now I'm going back to bed.

Even giving the benefit of the doubt... shouldn't we have been demanding attention to detail and giving 100% since spring practice??

I mean, I agree in spirit, but isn't this too little too late?

On the other hand, I'm not sure the coaches can really say much at this point other than "we really haven't done a good job this year, or for several years now." I think thats the only thing that I wouldn't roll my eyes at anymore.

it's long over due and too late but the coaches needed to be held accountable from day 1

"Too stuck in his ways..."

"This new idea is stupid..."

Guess the response just depends on the thread and which way is negative.

They will have a new "program" every week from here on out. This week it is the "chart program", next week after SC beats the hell out of us in front of the home crowd they will have the "gold sticky star". Maybe if the game with LL is close they will have "flog the coach with a wiffle bat program."

This is pitiful and reminds me of cranking up the band on the deck of the Titanic. A small distraction on a sinking ship.

In Grammar School we had this "Turn The Card" program. You had a set of cards and the first one was green. If you misbehaved you had to go "turn a card". The next card would be yellow which meant 15 minutes of time-out on the playground. Misbehave again, "turn a card" this one was red 30 minutes no playtime. And so on and so on......eventually it came to black when you had to go see the principal.

All these fix it schemes are reactionary. That's the issue. Need to see the train before it hits you. Be proactive. He's lost that.

It seems like grasping for straws. They are not sure what to do so they are changing everything up.

I was thinking the same thing. Randy Sanders moving to Kentucky was probably the best thing for him. He's sure he has a job next year, while Fulmer's is up in the air. Very ironic.

At this point I wonder if he can even be proactive these days. I mean, Phil has got to know the defense is lacking, everyone in America can see that, but there just does not seem to be a solution. I guess charts are better than nothing.

quote from the article explains everything...

UT Coach Phillip Fulmer told his players Sunday that there are 35 days remaining in the regular season and full-time effort will be demanded from this point forward.

See folks. We just weren't getting a full-time effort up to now. Glad they got that fixed. :eek:lol:
