hey guys, here is some information i heard from a guy i know who works with the football team and has to attend those 5:30 am workouts.

last week, three walk-ons showed up late to the workouts. CLK told them "don't come back".

also, apparently lennon creer has been having some trouble at the workouts and has been whining about it. the strength and conditioning coach told him "if you quit (the workouts) then you're quitting on your entire team." and "if you want to quit, go sit in the locker room".

he also mentioned that brandon warren has been a little whinny about the workouts.

i know it's not much, but i thought it was interesting.

IF they cant cut it... cut them. one thing i do like about CLK... He definately is not afraid to put the work in. eventually that will trickle down to the players.

I know a few players and they have the right attitude; one of them I talk to regularly said that it isn't fun getting up at 5:30 but he knows in order to get back to Atlanta he's got to put the work in. He did mention that some players do whine, but the attitude my friend is taking is the attitude the whole team needs.

I don't want creer or warren to quit. Creer's either going to be first or second string rb, and Warren hopefully will get to see the field this year.

Lennon Creer sucks. I haven't seen a UT player receive more overrated by fans since.....Jonathan Crompton.

I think the difference is that the jury's still out on Creer. I mean he played well (5.3 YPC in 73 carries with the o-line play we had last year is overrated?) I would imagine you can stick a fork in Crompton.

Personally I don't really care if they whine or not, as long as they show up and do the work.

Perhaps that is an explanation he did not play more last year, but it would be unfair to speculate based on loose talk.

who cares if they are whinnig as long as they are doing the work they will adjust.
of course they are whinning there fball world was turned upside down and they are teenagers that now have to get up early and show commitment. Once they see the payoff and it becomes culture they will stop.
Look at Petecarroll.com they show pics on his blog of the USC 530 workouts and the players are loving it.

this is ridiculous. the guy has hardly started any games for us. why don't you hold back the judgement until he actually gets some quality playing time......

I like this "boot camp" atmosphere early on. Weeding out the weak will only make them a better team down the road.

Personally I think there's a method.

Anyone think it's a coincedence that it's Creer and Warren? These two guys are probably getting pushed a little extra. I imagine CLK and crew see what these two COULD be and are not going to settle with half-effort.

It's the same philosophy the Marine Corps uses. "You have to break them in order to rebuild them"

I've seen the tactic turn the weakest people into stone cold fighting machines. Yes, the first part is horrible, but over time, the players will get used to it, and it will be second nature. I guarantee it will make the team more tight-knit, and better at their job.

Here's something simple for the players to remember.....

If you don't like it, go play elsewhere. Simple as that.

How much of this is actually going to translate into something versus how much of it is CLK merely envisioning himself as some sort of made-for-tv Coach Carter?

As if no other college coaches schedule morning workouts...get a clue...

you have an incredible ability to cut to the chase and really ferret out that which really matters. Good on you.
