Since a lot of these threads devolve into tit for tat spats (Of which, I admit, I am a major culprit), I thought I could try a purely basketball post and look at the value of our players to the team as a whole. So, here goes:
Irreplaceable
1. Wayne Chism
2. JP Prince
3. Bobby Maze
-It's not a coincidence that we are a vastly better team when Bobby plays well and JP's versatility is vastly underappreciated in spite of his brain lapses. I don't even want to imagine going into the NCAA's without Wayne.
High Value
4. Scotty Hopson
-Scotty gets a lot of flak for his lack of mental toughness and consistancy, but he still has 13 a game and his moments. He has high value because we need him to step up if we are to make the second weekend of the NCAAs.
Decent Value
5. Melvin Goins
6. Kenny Hall
7. Cameron Tatum
8. Brian Williams
-Cam could push the next category if he's ever healthy enough. Brian gets the nod because I see a little more fire in his ass since his return and we need presence inside. Kenny is a year away from being really good, but he will need to be good in spurts in the upcoming month. Melvin gets a bump up from irrelevance because he's shown some fire, too, since the suspension.
Filler
9. Stephen Pearl
10. Renaldo Woolridge
11. Skylar McBee
12. Josh Bone
-Pearl gets a ton of flak because he's the coach's kid, but I have come to realize he's good in short spells. He makes good decisions and positions himself well on offense and defense. But, if he has more than 6-8 MPG in the postseason, it's not good. I honestly think Pearl is using him a lot now to buy time for his bigs and will play him less in the postseason.
Woolridge should be higher because he has the talent, but he's totally crapped his pants the last few weeks. He gets his head together and he will be in the next group.
I never liked McBee on the team, I hope he proves me wrong. But, a shooter should actually be a good shooter. We could've gotten any number of "hustle guys" to fill his spot, he needs to shoot. I see no difference in him and Bone, at this point.
So, anyway, my rankings of value to this team and how they are needed in terms of our season. If we could, please, limit it to the purely basketball aspect of the player.
