I am trying my best to be interested in this game.

The style Rutgers plays has got to be the most boring scheme on the face of the earth. Had we actually gotten stuck with Schiano for a few years, I'm not so sure I could have continued by UT fandom.

It's actually been a better game than I thought it might be. Cristobal gonna have to do something better than this with all these 5* and 4* he's bringing in.

Crowd noise piped in. No way the crowd is that loud.
Idk...Rutgers isn't too far away from Yankee Stadium. They probably brought a decent number of fans. You know those New Jersey people...only takes one or two of them to burst you eardrums.

The losing coach of next year’s Miami vs UF game is getting fired.
"Maryanne" Cristobal is as inconsitent a coach I've seen lately. His players cannot block anybody. Announcers said this is the first victory for Rutgers over Miami in 11 contests. Yep, he gone. Of course, Rutgers coach Greg Schiano ain't no prize, either. Rutgers wins 31-24.

Eh. Rutgers tends to have a pretty strong showing to a NYC bowl game. They and Boston College are really the strongest showing the bowl gets attendance-wise.
Two of the bowl’s top 4 attendances involved them (Rutgers-Iowa State’s drew 38,328 in 2011, and #25 Notre Dame- Rutgers drew 47,122 in 2013).

(Granted it’s also in a baseball stadium, so a strong showing still only amounts to like 40k-49k)

This one bowl game annoys me slightly because the bid could be an experience for each team and their fans if done right, yet for some reason the bowl (or bowl’s committee) keeps refusing to do so.

They need to try to get this game as close to the day of New Year’s Eve as they can if they want to ever increase its overall draw.

Experiencing New York City on New Year’s Eve is how you sell that game to get people interested in that kind of bowl…not “come to New York 2-4 days before New Year’s Eve.”

Promoting experiencing NYE in NYC would probably draw a stronger response from the students.

I'm not so sure it would help with the older non student crowd though

There's a reason you only see people under about 25 in the TV coverage. Having to stand around for three hours with no restroom facilities is not so fun. Double that on an occasion where alcohol is normally involved.

Wait, no restrooms? Is that even legal??

Fairly normal for NYC and large crowds honestly

Seriously speaking-in a few days when you watch the NYC NYE celebration, every person in the crowd you see will be wearing a diaper/adult underwear.

Once you're in Times Square you are pretty much stuck until you leave.

The people who go to Times Square have to get there *early that day*, and for security reasons they don’t let the people come and go from those sections they’re gated into post-2001.

(Source: I didn’t do that, but I stayed at the Mariott Marquee in Times Square during the New Years holidays in 2007 and 2012. I could see the people gathering down there throughout the day, and they do not leave a section once they’re there.)

That said, there’s a whole lot more going on in a city that size then just Times Square in that city the night of New Year’s Eve.

Fair, but there’s so much more going on / to do event or celebration-wise in that city than Times Square the night of New Year’s Eve.

I’d also imagine that most of the fans/alumni having that much disposable income that they’d be making that trip to New York City during the New Years holiday, also aren’t going to be the people trying to be in Times Square at midnight.

I could list 100s of things I would rather be doing than spending New Year’s Eve standing in a crowded pen in Times Square, freezing my a$$ off while wearing an adult diaper or some other accommodation due to a lack of facilities. The fact that people do this amazes me.

All very true.

Just saying that the Times Square thing is not all it's cracked up to be. Nobody ever thinks about the restroom thing lol.

Did it when I was like 27 as a bucket list kinda thing-and I felt "get off my lawn" old
