Chavis' defenses have been steadily declining for the past few years. This year is just the ultimate fallout.

the 2005 defense was one of the best in UT's history if I remember correctly.

TN finished #2 nationally in total defense in 2005.

We finsihed #1 in the SEC in 1996.

I don't think Chavis has ever finished outside the top 3 in the SEC in total defense until last year.

Under Chavis, Tennessee has historically always had a stout defense. Year after year, Chavis has successfully been able to reload the ranks. The man is a hell of a defensive coach. He has one bad year, and everyone calls for his head; forgetting how many years a Chavis defensive has saved our offense's A$$.

Not even close on all these claims. We were #7 nationally in 05.

I think we're still paying for 2005. Our recruiting class was way down that year and now we are seeing the results. If we have another bad season this year it could be devistating to recruiting unless we make a quick coaching hire. If we have a bad recruiting class this year it could set us back several years.
