Theres a rumor on Rivals that Fulmer's wife is pushing him to retire after this year. Im not sure how credible this is and certaintly cant picture cpf leaving until he is forced to. Have any of yall heard this rumor too?

I didn't realize that Vicky talked to Rivals on a daily basis. Perhaps CPF will give what is left of his Empire to Robert Peace.

I heard he's up for the Alabama job. Saban misses the NFL and the Ghost of Bear Bryant is going to offer CPF 5 million a year and free donuts for life.

What does CPF's weight have to do with his moving to AL? Everyone one this board (except for me because I dine with CPF and family weekly) wants to whittle CPF down (no pun intended) to a fat hick, but it just isn't so. Get over it. He eats a lot, it's true, but that's genetic along with his gland problems and he won a NC in 1998, so get off his back. Would you prefer that he were an anorexic with no NC, ya frickin' Negavol?

I've seen this same rumor discussed ad nauseum on Inside Tennessee. I've also read that CPF wants in the worst way to go out on top of the SEC. Supposedly, the statements that Hamilton made a few weeks ago regarding winning the SEC at least once (or was it twice) a decade being the minimum expectation are actually the views of Mr. Haslam, who may be leaving the BOT but still swings a pretty big stick on Rocky Top. My best guess is that Fulmer has two years left, three tops. In that time span he will either win the SEC and retire a champion as he desires or he will be forced out.

Well, I for one hope this isnt true. I know some people are going to say that we under achieve at times. While, at times this may be true CPF has got Tennessee back to where it should be and this is everyone is dissapointed unless we win a championship. Granted we havent won as many as any of us would have liked but you can say that about over 100 teams every year. Just remember only one team can win each year. At least he brings in the players that gives us a SHOT at being that one team.

¿Qué? Gary de Tirón Visceral pregunta si la Grasa Phil realmente se retira. Sería probablemente un sueño realizado. Tal vez el Cutcliffe asumirá entonces.

Therein lies the one credible reason for keeping Fulmer around IMO. However, when you look at the recruiting class rankings that Fulmer has put up there compared to the lack of championships and BCS game appearances strongly suggest that his staffs' have not been very good at player development. I think that if UT got a head coach who emphasizes player development and changing the scheme as necessary it would more than offset a slight dip in recruiting and the net result would be a more competitive Vols football team. On the other hand, if the Vols just replaced Phil with another guy who doesn't excel in Xs and Os, and who does not elicit the respect and discipline from his staff and players to maximize player development, and who cannot recruit then the result would obviously be a net loss (i.e. bad coaching and less skilled athletes).
