Has this coaching search changed your view of Peyton Manning? First he approves the hire of Schiano then he is shooting down making any contact with Tee Martin.

IMO he is ruining his legacy the longer this goes on.

I just posted this in another thread, but it probably works better in this one anyway:

Peyton Manning is a man, not a god. People tend to assume he couldn't possibly disagree with them on anything or do anything wrong, because he's Peyton Manning, but that's obviously not the case. I don't know what his involvement has been in any of this, and I'm sure he's a good guy, but people would do well to remember this.

And the people assuming that he couldn't possibly have approved of Schiano, either tacitly or directly, because Schiano once pissed him off by trying to swipe the ball during a kneel-down play in an NFL game, are ridiculous. One incident does not mean that you disavow the guy years later over that one unimportant incident. If he was against the Schiano hire, I'm sure it's for the same reasons that everybody else was, not because he got pissed off at Schiano at a football game once.

Hell no, because you don’t have concrete sources and are just spouting over unverified BS. Shut the **** up. You are part of the problem.

I'm glad someone started a thread like this.

Legacy? No. But I do think he's lost his mind to some degree. He's playing in deep waters and, for someone normally as savvy as him, seems to be (a lot) out of touch.

Aren't you quoting one reporter about the Tee Martin bit? Haven't we learned better than that?

Still unclear about the Sciano sign-off. Certainly disappointing if true, but there's an awful lot of "me-too" reports citing other reports citing other reports going on.

Definitely. He's making his bed with the Haslam/Currie faction and is only tarnishing himself.

I mean its only a matter of time before crazy Al Haynesworth gets going with the line of "Peyton is blocking Tee from getting the job because Peyton is upset that Tee won a Natty"

Just wait.

NO. can't we enjoy having a legend that loves and supports his university. Leave it alone before we run him out of town.

For one, these are only reports. We have no idea if they are even credible.

Second, on the Tee thing, Tee is not ready for a big HC job. He's not ready, just because he is a VFL and he has been a OC for a few years doesn't mean anything. Let him get some years of experience under his belt and see where we are in 5 years.

Peyton’s the GOAT, but a lousy evaluator of coaches. He recommended the 5 Star heart champion of life to Dave Hart. Butch was Peyton’s guy and when Butch told Peyton he was contacted by Tennessee. Peyton gave his approval for him.

Ultimately Peyton does whatever the Haslam’s say do.

I love him and he reps the University with class, but he’ll fit right in with the Browns culture of #winning.

It’s funny. I knew both Peyton and Tee back in their UT days (family member played with both of them on the 1996-97 teams) and are both great role models for the university.

Now we have supposed Tennessee fans attacking Peyton Manning.

No wonder every other fan base, and the media in and out of sports, think Tennessee fans are just plain Stupid.

Peyton's a Haslam puppet. Period. It's sad to see for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see Peyton get involved with the Browns after this.

Please stop. Any decisions he's made was based on what HE thought was best for UT

We've hired Dooley, Butch, almost Schiano..... Tennessee is not a big time job at the moment. Lane Kiffin or Tee, with a blank check to hire staff, would be the perfect person to take over and build it back slowly.

I’m not attacking him, but he’s human like the rest of us. The bottom line is he needs to get out from under Haslam’s thumb.

Good post.

I also think this is why Haslam keep pushing terrible decisions down our throats. Bill Belichick and Urban Meyer get on the phone with him and say "Greg's a great guy and a great hire" and he creams his pants thinking they can never be wrong. Nick Saban constantly talked about how great of a coach Derek Dooley was. Michael Jordan has been a terrible NBA GM who has routinely made terrible draft picks. Just because someone is great at sports, doesn't mean they are great at everything.

Don't want him anywhere near the hiring process. He gave a huge endorsement and recommendation for Butch Jones.

That should tell you all you need to know about his HR skills

This is ridiculous. Peyton could get away with murder as far as Volnation is concerned. And I STRONGLY doubt that he would do anything without having the best interest of the program in mind. If he doesn't think Tee is ready, he's not alone.
