He needs to take it! I support whatever will decrease the Colts' chances of winning the division :) TITANS!

Good gesture, will only make around 17 or 18 mil a year instead of over 20 mil a year :)

in the league. He says it could hurt the Colts in keeeping their best players and signing the top unresticted free agents. Class act, but decide for your self.

Peyton Manning resisting Colts' efforts to make him highest-paid player - ESPN

If he was not holding out for the top dollar, he would have already signed a new deal. The fact is that he was holding out for the biggest contract and that is why he did not sign a deal a year ago and why there is not a deal now. With the lock out over and the pressure to sign a new deal in the face of the Clots entering the season short of top talent, he is now willing to make a move that saves face.

So your saying if it wasn't for the lockout he would have more than welcomed being the top paid player even though they still needed players to help.

The details have come out.....Jughead is going to make $23 million each of the next 3 seasons and about $10.5 the last two seasons of the contract.

So Saint Peyton is the highest paid QB in the league and all of the talk about giving back to help the team is bogus. He is not going to play at $10.5 million a year the last two seasons. This is essentially a 3 year deal to close out his career.

Funny, because the 100 million dollar deal he turned down was heavily backloaded. Wonder why he did that.

The top players are pressured to sign and get paid as much money as possible because that sets the market for everybody else.

If Peyton were to be paid an average of 10 million per over five years instead of whatever the actual average is(18 million or whateves) then a player like Sidney Rice would only average something like 4.5 million per instead of 8.2 he just inked with the Seahawks.

What do you think Peyton is more concerned about? (A)Winning games/championships or (B)adding to his enormous bank roll?

If you answer B then I have to question your sanity.

Agree 100% which is my point that saying that this is a "class act" or he is doing something that above and beyond is pretty silly. If he was broke, I guarantee he would be holding out for the most money possible.

Class act for? He did not do anything to give money back to the club to sign other players.

He signed a deal that makes him the highest paid player in the league, which the title of this thread said he would not do.

Once again I ask the question: do you think Peyton would rather add to his Scrooge bank roll or win another Super Bowl?

What does that have to do with this? He signed a deal making him the highest paid player in the NFL this season. He did not leave any money on the table for the Clots to sign any top free agents, as the original thread suggested.

Colts onwner @jimirsay tweets that Manning will make $23 million a year for each of next three seasons.

He is going to play 3 more years and hang it up.

That was my point. With the revised deal, the 5-year total is less, but the 3-year total (which is what will actually matter) is much higher. He turned down 55 mil over 3 years to get a contract for 70 mil. He wants to win, sure, but I don't see how that's heroic.

Jim Irsay said right after Brady signed his new deal last season that Peyton's next contract would make him the highest paid player.

Manning bucked at that idea and instead fought to not be the highest paid player in the NFL so that the Colts would have more money to help the team retain players and sign free agents. By all accounts he could have made an average of 20 mil over the next 5 yrs(100 mil, if you don't have a calculator).

Furthermore, Chris Mortensen has reported that he has certain clauses in his contract which allows him to be paid less in order to help lower the Colts salary cap.

If you still want to make the asinine argument that he just wants to be the highest paid player in the league then that's on you.

I seriously doubt that Manning won't honor the contract he signed barring a serious injury.

There are enough naive people who will believe what they are told. As PT Barnum once said, "there is a sucker born every minute".
