Peyton didn't give his blessing...

I have been hearing rumors that there is a rather large rift currently between PM and the AD office. It's only a rumor, so I'm not posting a thread on this subject, but this statement is a little puzzling, and makes me curious.

You are crazy if you think the big money boosters do not control who the university hires and I am quiet sure Peyton has donated more to this University than you will make in a lifetime.

O rly, so the amount of donations increases your experience in interviewing and hiring a NCAA head football coach.
Dont think so, Chief.:clapping:

Not much news out of Knoxville, but what is coming is big:

Just as the ancient Greeks turned to the Oracle at Delphi for answers, Volunteer fans turn to Peyton Manning. Just as Muslims turn toward Mecca daily, Vol fans bow toward Indianapolis.

Just as… you get the point, Tennessee fans worship Manning and many want HIM to be the Vols’ next coach (even though he has less experience than their inexperienced new guy).

So it’s not good news for Lane Kiffin that Manning isn’t ready to embrace the new coach just yet.

Despite what ESPN reported, Manning now says he was never consulted about the hire and learned of it from media reports. Of course, according to a pretty solid source I have, Mike Hamilton actually tried to go through Manning’s papa, Archie, to reach Peyton… because Peyton wasn’t returning calls to UT’s athletic director.

Now he says he was talking on the phone to Phillip Fulmer during the last few weeks and that he would have liked to have been consulted by Tennessee on the new hire.

“It was kind of a one-man crew on the athletic department side. It was their decision, so I found out when everybody else found out.” He also said, “Obviously, it’s a big change there, so we’ll see how it works out. I wish him the best, obviously. My blood still bleeds orange.”

Former players for Phillip Fulmer aren’t buying in and might not ever, but the current players seem to be saying all the right things.

Manning is a former player, I couldn't care less !out his blessing on the new hire.

I am a Manning fan, and my blood runs orange. I look at this as what have you done for me today. Peyton certainly made a great contribution with the Peyton Manning locker room. It is second to none.

But if I was the head coach; Fulmer or Kiffin, I would be looking at how this person can help the program be successful. I would *think* that Peyton would be a great resource to bring in top quarter backs.

Hmmmmmmm......

I think I will continue to appreciate the monitary donations.

The boosters are the ones that ran Fulmer out and I am pretty sure they are the ones who pay Hamilton's salary. He is their puppet. I am not saying because they donate a lot of money makes them qualified to hire a coach but don't think they don't have their say in who Hamilton brings in to replace Fulmer.

Gee, wonder what UTAD would be like if MH & Company really did walk around with dynamite and flame-throwers, looking for trouble and dissing one of the biggest ambassadors in UT history. Some of you guys would be fired in about 15 seconds if you ran the program the way you rant. Get real.

I just hope UT doesn't become Haslem U. It does matter what they think though if you plan on them paying the bills and or salaries ans such.

I love Peyton but don't y'all think he meant he still bleeds orange instead of my blood still bleeds orange? That NFL playoff race must be sorta stressful.

I love Peyton, but what can you expect really? While he was here, we never beat Florida, we lost to Memphis and our bowl wins were in the Citrus/Gator Bowls. That's what he knew when he was here. That's what he expects.

He was 39-6 as our starter, if I recall. The main reason he never beat Florida was that he couldn't play defense. It just so happened that we got a good defense the year after he was gone.

I thought the Peyton Manning hype was too much when he played for UT and I still do. A pocket passer with a good throwing arm is nice to have in college, but not vital like it is in the pros. But he was still one heck of a player, and beat a lot of good teams other than UF while he was a Vol.

Oh christ sake you guys on here kill me.

All I am saying is, to think that all UT fans bow to pray to Peyton manning is ridiculous.

I am a fan of the STATE of Tennessee, and I do not think one guy who played here is more important than the traditions, history, and coaches of the school I graduated from and have been a fan of for my entire 30 years.

To say that Peyton Manning IS UT football is an insult to the hundreds of top notch players and coaches who came here before and after #16.

All that, and GO TITANS. The Colts stink.

Quit nit-picking.

This is exactly what I was trying to say in my post, but Eloist just articulated that better.

Wu-Tenn clan, HOLLA.

I was a Kiffinite when I heard that Peyton was endorsing him...but now, knowing Peyton's uncertain about him, I can't support this dude.

I'm joining the NegaLanes....only Reggie White's approval will change my mind now.

:cray: R.I.P Reggie...

still miss watching that guy play
