Petrino to the Volz

Would take this job tomorrow if offered. It wasn't long ago he was basically begging for another shot when we hired Butch. I'm betting he would love to have another shot in the SEC, especially with the east being down. He would absolutely kill at UT. Why can't we ever hire a sure thing like him?

Because the holier than thou crowd can't get over his past.

Merge this junk please!

Just saying, he would win. At the end of the day all Vol fans want more wins than losses. It would be a sure thing and we would on top of the east for years

Has nothing to do with morals. He got Arkansas sued. He quit halfway through the year in Atlanta. He subverted his boss at Auburn. He left the Jaguars without even telling them. He signed a10 year extension, then left Louisville 6 months later. History says he's not a good hire... and that's without considering the affair and motorcycle crash.

I honestly don't care about the affair or crash. He wins, and his offense is exciting. Louisville took the chance, and look where they are now. I know it will never happen though

Not a choir boy, but would coach circles around coach numbnuts..

Go ahead and start working on some nice middle school nickname for ole BP like you did there for CBJ just in case we hire him...cause when he loses one game that's what'll happen to him.... I would be interested to know the average age of our posters here and really be interested in the average IQ...football IQ that is...If we get a bunch more 15's both stats would jump.... :birgits_giggle:

Well first of all, Tennessee won't hire him, guy is a winner, not UT'S style. I think i said that about a case of beer in Saturday night.. Yeah wasn't too happy with Lyle at the time. Still ain't. :hi:

Oh i bet i'm probably old enough to be your dad... Probably been watching football longer than you've been alive. Doesn't really take anyone with a high football IQ to see this team isn't well coached. Girlfriend even sees it and she hardly watches Football. Oh the fact most of the shows have reamed him over the last week really doesn't say anything either. They don't know anything.

You heard it hear first. Just wanted to get it out there so I can have insider status if it happens

Lots of baggage which I think we would not want to step into and most of all, What has he accomplished?

Very exciting offense and great play caller, but results?

He is the current flavor of the day for college coaching. Most on here gravitate to whomever is winning or getting praise with no basis in whether said coach would be successful in the SEC.

He is 107-40 in his 13 years as a coach in college football. Most on here don't want a 8 to 9 win per season coach - but that is what his record shows. The last time he won more than 9 was in 2011 while at Arkansas. He was 0-4 against Bama while there.

And his WKU team lost to a Butch Jones coached UT team 52-20 in 2013.

which is a nice record but he doesn't even have as many league championships as Butch.

Butch has won 4 in 10 years while Petrino only won leagues twice. He wins lots of games but few championships and none in 10 years

2004 Louisville won Conference USA

2006 Louisville won Big East

True and I don't consider him being all that some make him out to be.

Pretty good system. Want to know something about football? Ask somebody who doesn't.

For enough cash and benefits, petrino would take the job---it will take at least $6 million plus a boatload of other stuff.

More than that. We have to pay all or most of his buyout as well, which is around another $10 mil.

I believe there's a gentlemen agreement between all SEC schools that
Petrino can not coach again in the SEC because of what happened at Arkansas.
Which is more than we will all know!

If true all the more reason to get him on Rocky Top.

The Vols need to take a risk if they truly want to become the best.

The risk is the one we, UF, and UGA historically take when it comes to head coaching hires, up and coming cheap guys. Bama & LSU takes this approach from time to time but only experience real success when they shell out big $s and hire biggest guns out there. As mentioned in another thread we have to quit with the mentality we're gonna hire a $4 million guy and by sheer brute force beat him into performing just like his $8 to $10 million peers.
