Petersen to Arkansas?

The headline on that article is totally misleading. When you read the article, it basically says two things: (1) Arkansas is interested in Petersen; and (2) rumors are that Petersen is returning the interest. Neither is earth shattering. If they aren't interested in Petersen, they should have their heads examined. And we more than most know that rumors are just that--rumors--and saying Petersen has "interest" could mean everything from he's never talked to anyone at Arkansas to he has signed the deal.

That idea is laughable. Petersen wouldn't go there. Nobody wants to be there, I don't even think Arkansas people want to be there.

unless UT can pull something out of it's arse....another good coach goes off the board...this is getting ridicoulous...

What are you talking about? M. Stoops, Petrino and Peterson never were on UT's radar nor were they ever going to be pursued. Whats the prob? Still not sure he takes it.

I've said it before..I have to drive to Okalahoma City for business every once in a while. I always fill up in Memphis just so I can avoid stopping in Arkansas...I filled up for gas there once and they had a BBQ smoker going at the station..right next to the pumps..

Watch out, that Arky hillbilly BleedingTangerine will tell you that you are stupid and Arky is paradise

No I didnt. What I have said in essence was that prior to last November when I went there with friends from Knoxville to see us play the Razorbacks, I was surprised at what I saw.

I expected to see people who looked like your avatar and a town that resembled Deliverance.

What I saw was a very progressive community. An area that was obviously doing very well economically with many neighborhoods of million dollar houses.

I found out from many locals that the headquarters of Walmart nearby has brought in many very large corporations with high paying jobs. Everywhere you go you are impressed with all of the "newness". It was impressive to say the least.

Both of my parents graduated from UA back in the 70's and all I had to go on was what they both had described to me. They had not been back to Fayetteville since the mid 90's.

Having my expectations so low is probably why we were so impressed.

Another thing we got to witness was the facilities upgrade plan, some of which was already underway. It was 300 million if I recall.

I was there with the parents of a current vol player. My buddy had went on his sons official visit to Arkansas the year prior and his words were that they were "blown away" by what they saw. Again, they had low expectations and came back feeling like Arkansas had the best facilities in the SEC at the time. They will tell you today that our new facility does put TN back ahead of Arky, however they expect to have their new facility complete sometime next year.

If this is true, and I'm still very skeptical, then I will not be happy at all. If Petersen is really willing to leave, he should be our number one target, even over Gruden.

No way..He could never recruit well enough at UT. Has no southern ties. He would not even be in my top 10. Dan Hawkins had the same success and was a bigger part of Boises success and sucked when he left. He got into a real conference with real coach's and couldnt recruit and got beatdown after beatdown. Still doubt he leaves, could see him taking the Cal job or Oregon if Chip leaves. Still dohbt he goes to Arky., but if he does good for them. Flame away but the previous 2 from Boise have sucked so ..Koetter and Hawkins..

If this is true, Arkansas has convinced Peterson to do what no other school has been able to do. They must be really dropping the cash. I'll believe this one when I see it.

Would be stunning considering all of the better jobs he has turned down last few years.

Exactly.

He turns down UCLA, a school sat right in the HEART of a recruiting hotbed, for (reportedly) $4+ million salary plus $3 million for assistants.....only to accept the ARKANSAS job for what I can only imagine would be similar compensation???

...and doesn't one of his kids have a medical condition which has (at least one of the reasons) kept him in Boise for so long?

He wouldn't leave Boise for LA but he'd leave for Fayetteville?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Word is Arkansas is offering $6 million and the services of UAMS, which is supposedly a leader in cancer research.

Also says "former" Boise State Head Coach, that alone tells me this is crap

Noone knows who Hart is speaking to and who he is considering for the job. For all anyone on this board knows Hart could have interviewed Petrino, Cutcliffe, Golden and Fulmer last week. Just because the fans claim the list is Stoops, Patterson, Gruden, and Saban does not mean it's accurate. We'll know who the new coach is when Hart lets us know.

I'm not doubting your info, but UCLA Medical Center is literally one of the top-10 hospitals in the NATION for cancer...again, I doubt Fayetteville can hang.

I will back you up on this. Those of you who think Northwest Arkansas is some hillbilly heaven are either misleading or ignorant because you have never visited the area. I have lived here for 10 years, and have watched the area boom due to others like me moving here to do business with the worlds largest retailer. Fayetteville is a beautiful town, and up the road in Bentonville you will find an overwhelming amount of wealth and development. Now as for the rest of the state... well it's Arkansas. But would you cast judgement on Lexington based off what you find in Hazard, KY? Or Knoxville based off of Chelsea Avenue in Memphis. No... so stop with the generalities.
I'm no Arkansas fan but trust me they have the resources. Personally I believe that the choice between UT and Arky is no brainer, and any potential hire would be crazy to pick the Hogs over the Vols. but with that being said you still have to have the right man on point to make the deal happen, and it has yet to be seen weather it will be Long or Hart who will get their man.

Agreed nobody does know but one I can guarantee he wont is Petrino and Smart unless he flat out lied at his presser. Obviously Gruden is the top candidate and after that its a big gap for #2. We will definitely know soon whenever Hart is told by boosters everything is a go.
