This year our program has been on a downward spiral to mediocrity. Some people jump on the flavor of the month coach and envision greatness for our team.

Some people feel that you hire a legend and greatness will follow. Ask Notre Dame how Charlie Weiss the highly touted NFL OC is working out for them. Pete Carroll has succeeded at USC but not in the NFL and the same could be said for Spurrier when we he went to the NFL.

Finding the right coach is a reality we must face and the man we hire must have a hunger to reach the top, doing things the right way (no NCAA trauma) and loyality to our program. I would rather have a coach of character of the before mentioned attributes then a flash in the pan coach who will only use us until the next highest bidder comes a courting.

The reality is there is no magic formula that gives credence to hiring a current HC vs a coordinator. Make a list of the top coaches you feel are what we need and then examine the traits they all share.

Winners on the field or in life all share dedication to their craft, a desire to achieve greatness and respect from their peers. That is why Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Kyle Whittingham and Pete Carroll are successful.

Shoot, based on this year alone we're not even mediocre, we flat out stink.

That being said, I think good coach can get us competitive again pretty quickly.

The late great Bill Walsh could not turn this offense around given the fact that the coach will only have spring and fall practices. Our defense plays well enough to win at least 8 games a year. The offense has stunk it up year in and year out since 2000.

It will take 2 years minimum before we will see true results on offense.

In summary-

Many fans have been screaming for Fulmer's head under the umbrella of "We shouldn't settle for mediocrity! Ever!"

And now many of the same people will say "Okay now, we're going to have to be ready to settle for a few seasons of mediocrity and give these new coaches a chance to build their legacy..."

:hmm:

Huh? I was trying to answer your question in the header. I wasn't sure so I guessed Perception.

Also, the downward spiral started about 6-8 years ago.

I assume you are talking about Leach, maybe Kelley as flavors of the month. I am a Leach fan, but I am just ready for the search to be over and the next chapter to begin already!!!

Our reality is created from our perceptions.
Those top tier coaches perceptions create reality.

Were we are now the line is blurred!

Only problem is that was the 9th glass and everything is blurred......did we really beat Candy?

Oh well, my perception is that we will beat Kentucky and hire a coach that makes a lot of us happy and bunch of us mad. However in the end I hope the reality is he's a great hire.

Here's mud in your eye!

the 2006 Cutcliffe experiment begs to differ

Look at who was here in 06 and 07 for Cutty to work with. Ainge was coachable, the receivers were better then the no names we have now. How many WR that return next year can you name, the O line is in shambles.

I've been saying for years that this team needs a good swift shot of discipline. They need a no-nonsense hard case who would never tolerate the crap we have seen out of some of the players in the Fulmer era. While character and loyalty to school are both good traits, they are meaningless without discipline. Perfect example: Phil Fulmer.

The talent disparity is not as great as you make it out to be. I can name about 6 WR that have the tools, but i'll only name one....Rod Wilks

It will take 2 years minimum before we will see true results on offense.
Seriously, I know what your saying man, no coach ever comes in his first year and wins an SEC title, but expectations can get a little out of control

Mediocrity is 6-6. Not setting an all-time record for losses in one season.

Hopefully, we can at least be on an upward spiral to mediocrity by next season.
