FWIW, on the Zone here in Nashville, Doug Matthews, who we all know has ties to UT and Fulmer, stated that the decision on whether or not to replace Fulmer has already been made and he expects a coaching change.

He went on to say that there is really no one available who would be willing to come to UT that would be an upgrade over Fulmer. IMO he is biased because he is close friends with Phil so I would take that for what it's worth.

I can say with confidence that this is accurate and Fulmer is out. I just hope the coach is wrong and we can attract a big name guy that would be an upgrade over Phil.

I agree completely but he does have connections and if he says Phil is gone - being that they are "tight" and all, I'd say there's about a 98% chance he's right.

If they were actually close friends, he wouldn't be saying that there will be a coaching change.

Well doug just lost any respect i had for him, saying that no one we could bring in would be a upgrade over phil.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. These media types who in the past 17 years have nuzzled their way into the UT Football program like a tick on a deer are either going hells bells at the retainment of Fulmer or have fully jumped off ship (Sports Animal).

It's honestly really sad to see people who are protecting their 17 year as kissing skills at the downslide of the program. Whoever the new coach may be, I hope he is the biggest prick in the world and treats the media like Saban, Bob Knight, Parcells, etc.

PS: I hope he wins, too.

Agreed. People that say we can't get a coach that would be an upgrade to Fulmer are just whistling past the graveyard.

That makes no sense, and it is a well-known fact that Matthews and Fulmer are "pals". They speak regularly.

I would think the fact that he is saying there is going to be a coaching change would hold even more value given that.

Anyway, I am convinced now like I never was before that, indeed Fulmer is out. I was just as pissed, screaming at the radio, shaking my head, pissing people off on the road, because of all that he said regarding our future under a new coach. He said that we could expect pretty much what we've gotten the last 5 years over the next 5 and went on to state that Fulmer has just two losses to USC, KY, and Vanderbilt as a group during his tenure and expect that to change under a new coach.

Well, yeah, he should be able to beat those teams on a regular basis. Phil could have stayed home against those three and the Vols would have still won most years. That's just stretching to try to make Fulmer look better.

off the bat that would be better than Fulmer. I think that if we can't get someone a whole lot better, give Fulmer another year or two.

I detest most East Tennessee media. There are a few cats I enjoy reading and listening to.

I also detest people's feeling of change and progression in the East Tennessee area. The "Why do it this way, when Grandpa did it this way for 40 years" kind of groupthink.

That thinking is the problem with TN football all the way down to the H.S. level, one of the main reasons we have such a poor talent pool in this state. When you see a team running the wing you better believe that is what the coaches daddy ran.
