SC drive two- 3 and out. Have you seen our second half adjustments? Did you watch the florida game? You don't score 30+ unanswered points by having a swiss cheese defense.

I said START of the game. One reason the team is consistently behind by double digits is the way the defense STARTS.

one way for SC tobwin. penalties and turnovers. Good job Butch, glad you fixed the sloppy undisciplined play.

So you would rather we start strong and finish terrible? I've seen that movie, it was Vols 2015 and I saw 4 winnable games lost in the 4th quarter. This is Vols 2016 and I've seen every winnable game won by the defense (defense can't stop OT ints). Seriously, how can you believe he's been a "monumental disappointment"

Oh I don't know, maybe because his defense gives up over 40 points per game in conference play... Continues to make freshmen QBs look like All-Americans... And fifth year journeymen...

And we haven't had any game changing injuries on defense.

If ya'll think Shoop isn't going to cut it here, then there's no way in hell you're going to find anyone better as a DC. Who in the hell was Butch's other options?

I'm not saying he needs to be fired. I'm saying that he needs to get better.

He's had a top 25 defense on the past defenses he's coached, including f-ing vandy. I think he knows what he's doing. The difference between his vandy defense and this year's Vols? He didn't lose half his squad to injury. These new guys are learning, but when you lose your vets, it hurts. Especially on defense.

You do understand how football works, right? You have seen what we've lost to injury, right? What's the address of the rock you live under?

Butch has got to get these penalties under control. We have been one of the least penalized teams in the country the previous 2 seasons. Why are we so undisciplined this season? With that said the officiating in this game has been atrocious. So it's not as bad as it looks thus week. But it's definitely a problem.

Its often (not always) painful to be a UT fan and watch a game.

I'm completely baffled by the lack of discipline

This defense has been inconsistent since day one, when everybody was healthy. Especially early in games.

Turnovers
Injuries
Penalties
Predictability
Poor Coaching - burning that 1st time out of 2nd half.

A recipe for failure.

Shoop plays a high stakes defense that can give up yards in favor of making plays that stop drives. His objective is to get if the ball back to the offense quickly. In this game his defense play fairly well and did get the ball back when we needed it. This game is on the offense. Worst all year even though the line played well in the second half. We only have one receiver I trust to catch the ball, Jennings. Dobbs knows it too.

And the objective of the offense seems to get the ball back to the defense as quickly as possible. Maybe they've been coaching hot potato rather than football.
