Pearl said in the post-game tonight that he will not be rotating 11. He said he hasn't changed his mind about anyone's position in that lineup yet. Duke is behind Chism, Williams, Tyler, and Childress for a spot.

Why is it that he is opposed to rotating 11 here? Is it just too much to manage? I know Bruce keeps detailed records of PT and such.

I don't think you can rotate 11 players without running the risk of never letting anyone get in rythm. I'll bet by the end of the year that 8 guys will be getting most of the minutes with other guys seeing extremely limited spot duty depending on the opponent.

It sounded like 10 is as deep as he'd like to go in order to keep everyone in the flow of the game.

Certainly not a bad problem to have, though.

If you're constantly rotating 11 then guys are always out there with different players and there's not any chemistry, which was a huge factor in the success of last year's team. By SEC time, Williams, Tatum and one other most likely won't be seeing very much time.

I guess that makes sense. I suppose I'm just dreaming about constantly fresh legs just running the court leaving the not so deep opponents panting for breath.

It's nice to know that there are guys there to step in, though.

Lofton, Smith, Smith, Smith, Chism, Crews, Childress, Howell, Tabb, Tatum, Williams, Pearl, etc as far as guys who will see a lot of time, imo. Most to least.

I figure he'll rotate the top 8, with the other guys seeing some limited minutes. Pearl's time will likely drop next to nothing. Williams is good, but Chism and Childress will likely keep him off the court much of the time.

Now, I'm not coach...but it seems like the obvious rotation.

I think people are going to be very surprised at how little Duke Crews plays this season.

Pearl said tonight that he saw Chism/Williams at the 5 and Smith/Childress at the 4. Right now Duke is outside the 10-man rotation, although he will be fighting to take on of those spots.

I don't think Bruce even REALLY knows yet. One things for sure, it is 'gunna be a fun year.....even if you happen to be a closet Memphis fan:)

I agree with you. Williams looks better now than Crews did last year. That's not even taking into consideration how many minutes T. Smith and Childress will steal from him.

I will say that Crews looked good while he played tonight (albeit against a shoddy team).

I mentioned this earlier when he first came off suspension. People's judgement is clouded by his 5-stars and his extensive playing time as a freshman. But what I remember is how small his skill set was and how poorly he shot the ball. Free throws horrible. Even right under the basket, no touch. He is a good athlete who is strong and has solid size. Childress and Williams both bring more to the table right now. Bottom line.

I've heard the same thing. Even a possibility of a redshirt?
I've also heard Prince is the best athlete on the team and the most versatile player on the team. I can't imagine him not being in the rotation when he returns.

So I just saw Duke got in the game last night. In regards to my previous post, does that mean a redshirt is out of the possibility now?

No one and I mean no one is in a guaranteed position. If you want to play on this team, you had better produce or find yourself riding the white pine.

I'll believe JP Prince is going to be a major contributor when I see it.

Aren't you just a little bit interested to see him play on this team? I haven't seen him play. I've just heard drastically different accounts of his game.

You can go ahead and move Williams up about 5 spots on that ranking and Crews down, for now. With Williams's dramatic improvement in body habitus and fitness, it will be a huge (no pun intended) asset having his size on the court. Tatum has been impressive, at times, and may find more and more minutes as the year goes on.
