Pearl's Contract

You added the negotiation part yourself. I simple said he is in power in the current situation because the contract is on his desk. If he signs it its valid nothing UT can or wants to do at this point. Ball is in his court.

Pearl has absolutely no power in this process. He'll have little to no ability to negotiate anything in the contract. It's essentially a take it or leave it contract being offered to him.

Have you read it?

I thought the Tennessee department laughed at his recent contract proposal? Either way, I could see why the local media wouldn't want this brought up. It makes Pearl and the University look bad. We all know Knoxville media doesn't want to expose anyone related to Tennessee.

this was close to last I heard. Pearl and his representatives, made changes to contract that UT sent to them. When given to UT's lawyers, they laughed at changes.

to my knowledge, that is where it sits..

That would be accurate.

Hmmm. It seems that the simple fact that Bruce Pearl is still the coach would obviously show how desperate the university is to keep him. Neither is in a power position only because of the uncertainty on the NCAA ruling.

How many basketball programs in the SEC would take CBP in a heartbeat?

Well let's figure this out.
An analysis of salaries for college basketball coaches - USATODAY.com

I'm no guru but I think Memphis coach Josh Pastner is a steall at 815,000 a year. He's (Memphis) like 3-4 games behind Cal in the polls and wait a minute, Cals salary not available (maybe he's too ashamed to release it), what about 4 times as much a Pastner. Good hire Kentucky.:lolabove:

Pastner has an extension being worked out right now. The original contract was small because of his inexperience but the school has told him he will get a "substantial" raise if hes successful and keeps the program out of trouble.

Johnny C's contract was 31 mil for 6 years at UK but im not sure the details.

Pastner will do well at Memphis and deserves a new contract.

Well our stupid AD likes to drag this obvious stuff out as long as possible. Im sure he will low ball him and get him good and pissed off and have the fan base in riot mode for it is magically confirmed. signing Josh to an extension is the final job RC has to do as our AD before he retires in 2012.

So, I have a question to raise. When the NCAA comes a knocking with the sanctions as many of you predict they will, is it going to be more geared at the school or the coach? I believe in the latter. The players on this team were not the ones who broke the rules and then lied about. I believe that "IF" the sanctions come they should be directed at the coaching staff not the players. I don't remember them being the ones that are being investigated. This is a crappy situation no matter how you cut it. The school and the players are going to have to take this punishment when it is not their fault.

You also have to understand that the school has done nothing to show they should be excluded from the sanctions. Have they suspended Pearl? No. Have they cut his pay? Not yet officially. All they have done is put recruiting restrictions on him. However, even those restrictions allowed him a three week window before they were enacted.

The school will be sanctioned as well unless he is terminated or chooses to leave.

Unfortunately, I agree completely.

I hate it when things like this happen. I hate it for the fans and the players. We are the ones who are going to have to suffer. I already hear enough crap because I am a VOL fan and I live in the state that borders Tenn. to the north. ( Sorry, I refuse to write the name. Don't want to degrade a Tenn forum with that name.) I hope we can pull through this mess like we did last year. GO VOLS GO!!!
