It hasn't been much, but it's often a function of who's closest when it goes in. They get to set it up off FTs and dead balls, but on the rare occasion that we score in the flow of our offense, it's a rotation of the guy closest to the ball.

True, in the limited times it might have happened, it could have been when Tyler's man was inbounding the ball. Most of the time when teams set a press breaker, a 5 man will be the inbounder. So, I am assuming that is the reason that our 5 man is almost exclusively on the ball.

we use a zone press, so it's not about the inbounder. We are trying to make the entry pass go up and over one of our long guys, regardless of inbounder. A lot of teams have gone away from the 5 man bringing it in because he's often the worst passer on the floor. Most now just use a good passer and good decision maker.

I'm pretty sure you missed my point. I'm well aware that the 1-2-1-1 is a zone press, but it makes it much easier to transition to man-to-man when you place your guys in an alignment that matches them to the guy they will be guarding in halfcourt man to man. That would be a possible reason for placing Tyler on his man in the 1-2-1-1 if that has actually happened. I have seen Tyler on the ball underneath the opponents' basket when we have gone into our pressure looks on the halfcourt inbounds. I honestly can't ever remember a time that Tyler was placed on the ball in our press.

The fact is without excellent talent, no team will go very far; regardless of the coaching. If you want to be an exceptional team, you must have exceptional talent.

Your are absolutely correct that we always put the 5 on the inbounds and if we can't trap and get a turn-over, we immediatly fall back into a man-to-man. The point was without exceptional talent, it doesn't matter what we do, we will not be an exceptional team.
