For what it's worth, I read this in my local paper Wednesday.

University of Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the first-ever Motlow Men's Tip-Off Banquet & Silent Auction on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Blue Ribbon Circle Club on the grounds of the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in Shelbyville Tennessee.
This fun-filled evening will "tip-off" at 6:30 p.m. and will include Pearl's energetic presentation, an authentic Itallian dinner, adult beverages, live music, and a silent auction.
Auction items already secured include, autographed basketballs by Hall of Fame coaches, John Wooden, Dean Smith, Pat Summit, Dick & Tony Bennett, NBA Stars, Jason Richardson, Kevin Durant, as well as a Cleveland Cavaliers signed ball (including Lebron James' sig.). There are also several pieces of artwork, diamond earrings, gift baskets, Titans and Predators memorabilia, academy award winning actor Forrest Whittaker autographed memorabilia, and Major League Baseball All Star (and former UT Vol) Todd Helton's signed UT jersy. Motlow men's coach Bobby Steinburg expects many more items to be added to the list.
Only 280 tickets will be sold at $50 each. For more information, contact Steinburg at (931) 393-1620 or by e-mail at <bsteinburg@mscc.edu>. It also says that dress is business casual to semi-formal.

I'd never heard of Motlow St. before.

Anyone know what Pearl's connection with Motlow St. or Steinburg is? Wonder if he's interested in any hoops players there for a year or two down the road. Looks like they have some studs on that team.

Motlow is in extreme northern Moore county, just south of the city of Tullahoma. Of course everyone knows that Moore county is the home of Lynchburg (a.k.a., the home of Jack Daniels Distillery). As far as Pearl's possible connection to Motlow, I have no idea. Hat, or someone else with extensive basketball knowledge, might know the answer.

Riddle me this...What does Forest Whitaker have to do with Motlow?

It's possible that they asked him to come help them raise money and he agreed to help because it's a state school.

I worked summers up in Sewanee several years, have been to the JD Distillery (great trip, btw), and never heard of Motlow. Apparently they've got a pretty good hoops team though.

The only way that "Motlow" would come up in a conversation in Sewanee is in reference to the distillery and its former proprietors.

If your trip from Sewanee to Jack Daniels took you through Tullahoma, you went right by Motlow's main entrance. About their sports program, I can honestly say, even though I have lived within earshot my whole life, I have never kept tabs it.
