Pearl calls text message ban-ridiculous.

In a nutshell, he thinks that text messages could be limited but should not be eliminated.

It's also interesting that he blames the struggles of USA basketball on a lack of practice time.

okay.. i agree with that. there's just no way to follow all the different cell phones a coach can have IMO.

Houston Nutt thought it was a great idea.

in that mistresses and paramours are not included in the ban, it affected him about like the weather in timbuctu. he damned sure wasn't wasting any of them on recruits.

Now arkyvol, that was a cheap shot at Coach Nutt in my opinion. Nutt was Easter Seals Man of the Year last year and that lady was involved in charity work. Besides, he used a different cell phone for recruiting related business.

I just don't know how you could police a limited number of text messages.

Same way they police the number and timing of phone calls and all contacts.

Coaches can slip off to the pay phone to call a kid today. Or they can set up a California number using vonage and phone records would look like Petey boy was calling him.

What's wrong with this??? They are high school athlete's for crying out loud. Recruiting is difficult enough and texting was allowed during the dead periods which shouldn't have been allowed. I am sure that the parents had alot to do with this because of the fact they want their kids to do well in school and NOT stay on the dang phone. I think it was Gerald Jones this year that had his phone taken away because of UT texting him while in class.

I never heard of Gerald getting his phone taken away.. I dont think they should ban coaches texting kids.. For one because that increases the amount of phone calls i'm going to be recieving... The week leading up to signing day was CRAZY.. I was getting texts at 5 in the morning...
