Just wondering if anyone saw this as a change in his style? We've seen it a few times where CBP didn't call one (like Purdue) and our team never really got into a good offensive set. I still don't know if that was the highest % shot we could have gotten but it worked.

This team is much different than past teams. They have to win ugly and Pearl has adapted his style of coaching and that means more timeouts late in games to strategize. He figured Donavan would be in a zone and they would double/triple down on Wayne and it would leave Scotty open. Scotty wasn't quite so open but he made the shot nontheless which I think springboards his play from here on out.

I usually feel pretty good about Hopson taking almost any shot, but I think the timing of it got me a little bit more than the length. Why give Florida that much time to get a shot off?

That said, I would have been a LOT more nervous the last few seconds if I had known it wasn't a 3 pointer.

not sure, but i interpreted it as him taking a shot at CBP for not calling a timeout in previous situations similar to yesterday. correct me if i'm wrong ha.

I was surprised by the timeout. Then I was expecting a set play for Chism at the rim, but as soon as they started the high screen weaves I knew it was coming down to a long ball from Scotty. Good to see him step up to the challenge Pearl laid down on the dry erase board.

There was nothing wrong with the Purdue offensive set. Chism had a wide, wide open shot and he's actually one of our better shooters. He just missed it.

both......I was happy that he finally took a time-out, and abit surprised that you're making a post about it......but I do agree that having less players has forced him to coach more, and use X's and O's more.....so let's hope this continues.......:hi:

The problem with the Purdue finish is all that time that ran off with Maze being guarded far from the basket. Once Bruce saw we were disorganized and out of rhythm, he should have called timeout.

Good to see him draw something up this past game.

Some people just get real mad when you say CBP did something right. Their minds are made up.
Stop hijacking the threads, Illini fans.
 -interpret that.

Has Pearl finally figured out that he doesn't have the brightest team in the world?

The no timeout is still the right call to me in most of those situations. Look at the difference in shots between Purdue and Florida, two outside shots, one contested and the other was not. Letting a coach set up a defense is far more of an advantage than setting up an offensive play.

Were you some how suggesting we got into an offensive set??? Ha (just pulling your chain), but it was not much different than usually, except Hopson hit the shot...

Depends on the coach and his ability to run effective offensive sets.

In the college game, with so many defenses, it's not often for a set offensive play at the end of the game to get a really good look. Far more often, the game winner comes from a put back on a play where a TO was not called.

I disagree if you are referring to the situation we faced against Florida. There were almost 30 seconds left; almost every coach in the country calls a timeout in that situation. If Parsons had hit the three with about 10-12 seconds left, there would have been no timeout in my opinion.
