I'm thinking about buying a PDA. I'm on somewhat of a limited budget, so I'm not looking to spend too much over $100, but I need on that has wi-fi. Anyone have any suggestions. I was looking at a Dell Axim, as it seemed like a decent value, but I'll admit I have pretty much zero knowledge about these things. Any input would be appreciated.

why not just get a blackberry curve with tmobile? it has wifi....or, a new blackberry is coming out on at&t in jan. called the bold. check it out. Carrying around a pda in addition to your cellphone gets old quick.

I would also recommend the Curve through TMobile. It has WiFi capability and pretty much has all of the stuff you would need.

I'd mostly be using it for school, so it'd just be a small addition to my backpack. I'm not really wanting to deal with a new cell phone plan right now, otherwise I'd go the smartphone route.

I think I'm just going to buy an older pda on ebay.

Does verizon's curve have wifi or is it disabled?

Kpt, I used to have one of these. I bet you could find one on ebay pretty cheap. I like the touch screen and the palm os is pretty user friendly.

Palm - Products - Palm T|X handheld

From what I understand, none of the Verizon phones have wifi. Thanks for the tips, though. I was actually trying to decide between the Dell X30 and the Palm TX. I think both would be fine for what I need. It'll probably come down to whichever I can find cheaper.

I have an old Dell Axim X5 that I got from my dad sitting in a box. I would sell it to you cheap, except that it uses an CompactFlash wi-fi card, and I've found the drivers for it to be flaky as hell. I could not in good faith sell it to somebody for whom "wi-fi" is the main thing they needed in a PDA. It's otherwise a decent unit, though. For a starter PDA, you could do a lot worse than to buy one of the slightly more recent Axims with built-in wifi from eBay. This one's currently at $33, for example.

(I prefer the Palm OS to Windows Mobile, but so does everybody else, so good used Palm PDAs on eBay will run you more.)

So the Axims are pretty good quality? I just don't want to buy something that's going to fall apart on me in the next couple of years.

My dad has owned two -- the X5, which is currently sitting in a shoebox in my closet, and a newer one with wi-fi which he used up until a couple of months ago. (It didn't break -- he retired, and I guess it was company property.) He used both of them heavily -- carried them with him all day, every day -- and as far as I know, never had any trouble with either of them. They both seem sturdy to me.

If it weren't after midnight, I'd call to find out what model his newer one is. It's not sexy compared to the new toys, but it's small, lightweight, built in wi-fi. Probably four years old now, which means you should be able to score one fairly cheaply. I'll find out tomorrow which model it is.

From experience, really consider going with a smart phone. It keeps everything in one unit. I had a palm T-somthing years ago and when I went with a smart phone it was a huge improvement. You should be able to find a cheap phone on ebay that works with your current service too.

I think that the life expectancy for usability of any electronic device that you carry around everyday is probably a long shot to be more than 2 years...just my .02 however.

The Axim is a pretty well made piece.

About verizon and wi-fi... the xv-6800 and the Samsung SCH-i760 both have wi-fi.
