Kinda funny stumbling on this so much later. The Green kid, of course, went with Michigan. I joined this forum just so I could set the record straight about this kid. I covered his final two state playoff games for VirginiaPreps.com which is part of the Rivals network.
After the last post in this thread Robertson was named VHSL AAA player of the year by every organization I know of that names all-state teams. He set the all time Virginia High School League rushing record for yards in the playoffs (over 1150 in 4 games-most teams in Virginia get 5 games if they go to the finals, but not his region) and he did this in Virginia's highest division (6). He also set the record for yards in one playoff game with a mere 426 in the state semi-finals. The game was also the second most yards ever in a single game in AAA. He then went for 190 in the state championship against a team with two big time (one's going to Maryland, other will be nationally ranked next year) defensive ends in leading his team to a state title. He ended up with the most yards ever by a AAA (divisions 5 & 6 in Virginia) running back in a single season.
He's 5'11"-190 with grades and great character. He did, indeed destroy the Green kid in a head to head game (Green was playing at home for the number one team in the state); Robertson was playing for the lowest seeded team in the region playoffs (despite being 10-0) and out gained Green 210-76. It was an amazing playoff run against Virginia's absolute best competition for a school that had never won a state title before.
The Robertson kid never even started at tailback until his senior year because he was behind Yahkee Johnson (who went for 2313 himself last year). So that might be why he never got a real look from big time programs (who have usually signed everybody up by their junior year), and the school he runs at is known as probably the best rushing team in the state, so maybe some see it as a product of the system rather than the back.
However, Robertson was also a big time track guy who was ranked very highly in the state in the 100 meter dash last year.
I'm not a recruiter and I don't know what they look for, but I did want to make sure no one thinks somebody's blowing smoke about what this kid accomplished. I certainly don't mean to say that I think a program of Tennessee's caliber should go after him--I don't know--but I am surprised places like Wake Forest don't show a little interest in the kid.
It looks like Robertson will end up somewhere like Delaware, which is great, and not a put down at all. I do wonder, however, what would happen in one program decided they weren't going after juniors, or at least were going to save half their spots to get kids like this who no one discovers until their senior year. Would they be competitive? Probably, not, but it'd be an interesting experiment.
All the yardage totals I refer to are rushing--he also caught a few passes, though not enough to get excited about.
