Anyone who watched the game last night think Gary Patterson's stock went up a bit? Even as the highest paid coach in the Mountain West (~$1.2M) there is a lot of room for a substantial raise without breaking the bank at higher profile programs in stronger conferences. Somewhat of a known quantity not only as a HFC but also a solid recruiter.

I'm shocked he has lasted at TCU this long.

Solid recruiter? IDk, i know invade texas to get recruits like crazy, but i mean 2 stars inTexas are as a 3 stars anywhere. So recruiting I"m not sure a/b. But let me say this, the man can absolutely coach. I would like UT to hire him

I think Patterson's stock was rather high to begin with. This game just gave his team a little more media coverage.

I've seen Bronco outcoached 2 games in the past 3 years.

1) Tulsa (offensively) last year
2) TCU (both sides of the ball) last night

If anything, officiating favored BYU, so Patterson plain out-coached us. I would be all for bringing him to UT.

Just saw on Wikipedia that he turned down a $2 mil per year offer from Minnesota to stay at TCU... and that he is rumored to be on Clemson's short list.

Every good coach is on Clemson's short list -- while our inept administration sits on its hands.

Somewhat agree with the sentiment about inept administration, but I would like to believe that the wheels are turning behind closed doors. We wouldn't hire any currently employed coach right now, regardless - nor would Clemson. So unless our target is someone currently unemployed... I wouldn't expect any public action until after the regular season. A little more acceptable to publicly reach out to employed coaches at that point. But that doesn't mean our people are privately talking to Davis' Patterson's, etc. people right now.

I think you would be surprised to know what our administration is working on if you were a fly on the wall. The boosters are meeting and the short list has been drawn up for quite some time. We will get a good coach.

I hope you are right, General. With this bunch, however, I have my doubts.

I'm sure that Clemson and UT's lists might have a few common names, but I'm not so sure those candidates would be listed in the same level of priority.

I think CU's top candidate right now is Muschamp. I don't think that's the case for UT.

So, unless Willy Muschamp is the guy you've been dreaming about (Business), I don't think we have that much to worry about with that vacancy.

I hope I'm right too.

Hambone was really on my chit list after the offseason contract extension... and trying to justify it as market value. As a fellow CPA I was disgusted by the lack of fiscal responsibility and accountability it demonstrated.

However, hammy regained some respect in my eyes for firing the warning shot across fulmer's bow this week. He wouldn't float that out there publicly unless there's something behind it. The guy is politically motivated, so he knows the fallout if he follows up those comments with inaction... while the program remains in the toilet.

For him to come out and say that they have $7 million to buyout Fulmer is a passive/indirect threat...

It also backs Hamilton into a bit of a corner.

He can't tell the fans that money's not a problem, and express his willingness to make a change, and then not deliver on it at the end of the year.

Exactly, he knows the pulse of the fanbase and the backlash for inaction if we go 6-6 or worse.

I like how he reprimanded his player, who had just jumped on a fumble, for spiking the ball and incurring a penalty.

if anything backs him into a corner it should be this:

With it being a presidential election year, would you re-elect Phillip Fulmer to coach the Vols?

So does anyone think if we brought Rodney Garner in as DC/recruiting coordinator he would be good. Like him come in the the new HC if we get one.

I would drive 20 miles west and help him pack his house for the move to Knoxville.

I just read his Bio and see that he coached LBs at Tennessee Tech...so for all you "the man needs ties to Tennessee" folks...there you have it!!!

I personally would love to see what this guy could do with some real talent at UT!
