Vols love Jauan Jennings' effort, results | Times Free Press

By his nature, Jauan Jennings is the kind of wide receiver who flirts with a personal foul or unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by mixing it up with an opposing defensive back 30 yards away from a running play.

Now the Tennessee sophomore is becoming just as likely to make big catches and score touchdowns.

"That's just how he's always been since he's gotten here — very competitive (and) wants the ball," quarterback Josh Dobbs said. "You throw the ball anywhere in his vicinity, you know he's going to go up, compete and he's going to want the ball at the end of the day.

"You see it on his touchdown in the Virginia Tech game and one of his catches this weekend where he jumped over a dude's back — crazy stuff. That's just his mindset, and he definitely brings a toughness to the offensive side of the ball."

How can you not love this kid???

With so many teams playing press coverage more passes become 50/50 balls or back shoulder throws , WRs should be able to high point the ball and have good hands in addition to speed. Our receivers looked great in the 2nd half vs. fla. and it was exciting to watch. :good!:

JJ is starting to become my favorite current player. Not only does he ball out, but I'm impressed that he wanted to be a QB in college, but decided to switch positions and stay with his team to help them win. These days, most kids wanting to play QB would transfer.

"Jauan is a dog. That's what I call him," safety Todd Kelly Jr. said. "Point blank, he's a dog — anything he does, it doesn't matter what it is. There's a basketball goal in our team meeting room, and he'll want to play anybody in one-on-one or play H.O.R.S.E. with them, and he makes sure that he wins. And if he doesn't, he's dissatisfied.

"That transfers over to in between the lines. He just always tries to play his best and plays for his teammates. Before the game he looked me in my eyes and he said, 'This is a big game for you and for me and we have to get it done for our state,' and that's what we did. He takes pride in the game of football and he really loves it."

He's not the most pure WR obviously because he's new to the position but it speaks volumes about him when the team needs a big catch they go to him. That dude is like a pitbull and never believes he's defeated. Love it.

Love Jennings. Also Patrick Brown is the best beat writer in the state. He and John Brice are pretty much the only two I pay any attention to in the media.

I knew he was special when he showed out at WR from day 1 after converting from QB. Now he's had a whole year and offseason to get better, and his progression is amazing. Hard to believe the number of kids who were recruited as WRs that he's passed up on our depth chart.

From the little I have seen of Jauan and Sheiron, they same to be from the same mold.

We need a dozen or more like these guys!

I love to watch him when you're at the game. He goes hard on every play. And like the article said, mixes it up to the brink of penalty. Love it

Barnett is similar in defense, he is always on the knifes edge of a roughing or unnecessary roughness call. I love that edge and that attitude.

This kid's a baller and tough as nails, the Vols have been missing someone like Juan Jennings for some time now, Vol fans may be just starting to witness how good he can become and help team 120 going foreward:good!:
