I have been a member for some time, although I sit back and read everybody else's opinion. I felt it was time I spoke up.

1. Deja Vu again, with the booboys. Dont go booing to get decommits. Did we actually think just because we brought in a new staff, that we would turn into world beaters overnight? Look at Carroll, and Saban in their first years. Both went .500. I am not saying that we dont have talented players, but it will take some time. Fulmers program was stale, and it has to be rebuilt.

2. It starts and ends with QB play. Crompton was heralded by Rivals and Scouts before he came to play. What I see is a victim of bad circumstance and even worse OCs not named Cutcliffe. He actually fared well in a loss to LSU in 2006, but has not been the same since. He is broken down. When your confidence is shot, it seems gone forever, especially in the SEC.
I am not saying that he should not be blamed for bad games, by all means, he is the leader, but we have to accept that it is he, or nothing. Stephens is not anything better, although Knoxville media will tell you differently. Maybe Stephens does step up. I will say this, if you have a top tier defense, a mediocre QB should be able to at least guarantee 8 wins. I think a huge win at FL would boost the confidence of our QB play. The fans need to stop booing whoever is playing though. At least Crompton made scholarship, what are we doing? Nothing better apparently.

3. The bashing of our new coach at this stage is severely unnecessary. He is at least willing to take certain gambles, unlike the previous regime. While his last two plays were questionable, he did what he could. Credit UCLA for stopping the passing game, then stacking up the line against the run game. That was a good defense TN played against. He has even stated he should have done things differently. I think with what this staff is accomplishing, and the future (look at the recruits) ahead, I think TN will return to prominance as was the case from the mid to late 90s.
We ALL wanted Fulmer gone, and now we have to give this guy a chance. When I say chance, I mean at least two seasons. Hell, Carroll, Saban, and Meyer stuttered in their first seasons.

I think we have more issues than just the qb position, our ol and recievers are not up to par with the top teams in the sec. We have to get better in those areas to play for championships. I think this will happen with this staff, but it will take time. The best is yet to come, so be patient all you young grasshoppers.

If memory serves me correctly was it not CLK who stated that assembling his staff was going to take time because he needed to get it right. Was it not CLK who stated no other staff will out work him and his staff at recruiting and was it not CLK who stated he does not know how many games he will win his first year but one thing we will notice is his team will play physical. Seems to me that everything he has said thus far he has delivered on so by all means lets show patience.

Ask yourself when was the last time we had a HC that has been this honest and upfront? We all want immediate results to wash the bad taste out of our mouths from the past 8 yrs but right now we just don't have the talent to do so. We could only sign so many players the first 3 months he was on the job but he did sign a top 10 class and right now it is looking like a repeat for 2010.

Patience will pay off for us in the long run because this is a marathon not a sprint.

Look on the bright side: This is the last year you will have to witness it.

Not anymore. Fans, programs, colleges, etc are not going to sit around for 3 yrs waiting for a coach to turn a program around. You have 1 season tops these days to do it. Sorry to say it, because I like CLK and staff, but he has a gimmee this year, but if things don't improve next, he will be gone. 7-4 or 8-3 is way better than 5-7. RELAX.

CLK needs to step up and back up his words. All the coaches need to step up and kick everyone's butt this week for losing that game...so much so that the team refuses to lose again. Crompton needs to get over himself and play like he can or else get out of the way. The OL needs to step up and protect our QB and open up our run game. It's time this team remembers who they are. This will be our last shot to beat Tebow and Meyer. Let's do this.

Anything is achievable by any team, they just have to play as 1 unit and have a great day executing. The defense is still pretty solid, but we have got to score points. Saturday is going to be rugged, but there still are 11 players on either side of the ball...MAKE IT HAPPEN VOLS!

Alot of good points in your statement but we also need to face the fact that our OL is weak and not up to SEC standards. Our coaches can only do so much with the talent they currently have. Most of the OL are from the former regime which means deep down their soft, look who recruited them.

I don't agree they're soft, just not very good. They're not dominate o-linemen, doesn't mean they can't play out of their minds once in a while. This weekend would be a good time.

I agree with the general point of your post, but there is no way Kiffin is going to be fired after next year regardless of the record unless he goes winless or something crazy like that.

I was pretty confident in a big UT win last week, but I'm still on the bandwagen. I was hoping we'd see a new and improved Crompton, but oh well. It will be fun to see how this staff manages this situation and team.

It's going to be a wild ride, but much preferred to the boring funk that's surrounded this program that past few years.

I'm blown away by the recruiting so far...the future is bright!!!

Agree that Fulmer left things in bad shape - not enough depth in key areas - players not coached up - too much reliance on walk-ons. If you don't have top SEC quality players, you cannot expect coaches to suddenly be able to develop them into elite players. They have to work with what they have and develop plays around them. I think Kiffin has done this. It's hard to factor in enough plays to overcome a half dozen turnovers a game. Agree as he gets his kind of players at Tennessee things will turn around.

I agree. Everyone wants to hit the panic button after one loss. I mean Crompton is our QB, what do you expect? I was optimistic after the WKU game, but looking back he had all day to throw and did fine. UCLA pressured him all game. He just cannot handle any pressure. We all were too optimistic after the WKU game but lets not count him out completely. I mean he never did anything like he did vs. WKU, last year. So there is some improvement. BUT If or when he fails epically against UF. Kiffin should give Stephens his chance.

In most cases, he had ample time to make the right throw. He did not even come close.

Since this is Florida week........
just something to use as comparison:
Urban Meyer's first year as head coach of UF:

9-3 record, losses were at Alabama, at LSU, and at South Carolina. Other notable games: barely squeaked out a 2OT win at home vs Vandy, won at home vs UT 16 to 7, won the Outback Bowl vs Iowa 31-24.

We all know what happened the next year, 2006. Not saying TN is going to win a Nat Championship next year, as Zook left Meyer a much better team than Fulmer has left CLK, but yes, have a little patience. Very rarely does a head coach have a great season in their first year, especially in this conference (i.e. 2007 Nick Saban). Although he has yet to prove his coaching abilities in the SEC, CLK has surrounded himself with coaches and recruiters that know how to win, and have already raised a few eyebrows. They have put this school back on the map. IMO, UT is one of the hottest programs in the nation right now and will field a top 5 class in 2010. This staff is doing everything in their power to lay the foundation that it takes to build a national powerhouse and win a championship. Things are on the right track.
