From where he was standing on the field, there were dudes open.

This was the most sacks between two teams in the FBS game since 1995. Do you think Texas is happy with their offensive line?!

Ultimately it comes down to Faizon being young.
100%. And I'm not mad at him for it. Would I like to have seen him throw it? Absolutely. The o line did a garbage job and they were supposed to be a strength this season. We knew that whoever was qb1, we had a weak spot there. If the line could have held up, we could have likely pulled out a win.
Would I liked to have won? Yes. We weren't the best team on the field. If we had won, we would have stolen one. Just like Georgia last year.

Texas gave every SEC team the blueprint we will be seeing going forward…pressure, pressure, pressure. I’m still shocked we didn’t make any adjustments to try to slow TX down, but that’s in the rear view mirror now. We better come up with game plans that are going to negate the pressure, or it is going to be a very ugly season.
Is Texas going to loan out their DL to every SEC team? Yall got to stop with the crash outs. Yall act like this is the first game that we've ever lost. We lost more than 1 last year, and the year before that too. We haven't went undefeated since 1998.

It’s unfortunately one of those things he probably has to see and fail at in order to learn.

Reminds me of when Tyler Bray came in for the first time against SC and one of his first throws they zone blitzed and he threw it to a DE for a pick-6. True Freshmen are going to do freshman things.
I still have a soft spot for Bray (and his tattoo). Thats one dude you never had to tell to sling the ball. If his mental makeup came anywhere even close to his arm talent, he'd have been an all-everything QB.

Unfortunately this place is littered with reactionary casuals. Yeah, they may love the Vols, but have no desire to understand details and nuances of the game. "What I know are ehat my eyes tell me".

Here we are year 6, and we're playing musical chairs. Our 6 have Sham Umarov and Sam Pendleton. Jesse Perry is a G. So is Sam. What the hell are we doing?

Its one thing to give up a few sacks, that's gonna happen. I'm even willing to give Texas credit for stopping the run. But, penalties, missed blocks, sacks against Kennesaw/FBS, and times with no push. Year after year. How much about results is scheme and RB? What could we do with real porthole additions? Or developed talent?

Umarov, Pendleton, Perry. Are those guys gonna get us to next level? Would they play at Georgia, or Florida? Speaking of Florida...they're gonna be in top 10. Kentucky, looks good under a 1st yeat coach.

We should have been in the porthole, getting dudes last year The goodwill is over. The rushing results are likely scheme and running back. It isnt NIL because we are one of the too programs in the Country, We know it isnt Heup, cause he's the offensive guy.

What is it then? Halzle? Ellarbee?

I think there's your answer.
TX has a great DL and our OL didn't perform well. BUT, with average SEC QB play, the Vols win that game. IMO, Brandon was focused too much on not throwing a pick vs. making plays that can win the game. He too often vacated the pocket when he shouldn't have, didn't make good reads and should have gotten rid of the ball several times vs. taking a sack. The game was just too fast for him in this one. He'll learn from it and get better, but his performance was abysmal.

During the 1st 3 games one could see the tendency of him not seeing the coverage and pulling the trigger on timing routes. Against earlier lesser opponents it wasn't a critical factor. As true freshman there probably are very few (if any) that come into the SEC as QB's that have the mental aspect of the game mastered at a highly competent level. Some have all the skills physically but never acquire the mental skills to process coverages fast enough and let the ball rip. I don't blame the kid, hopefully with film study and time in the arena, Faizon can get there.
Excellent post. Playing QB is probably the most difficult thing to do in all of sports.

I like what I have seen out of FB, and I am optimistic he will learn from the Texas game and progress to making quicker reads /
Processing faster / make more of those throws.

However, at this point there is no way to know whether he will or will not do that. Those arguing definitely or even probably that he will have no data to back that up.The sample size is simply way too small. Those arguing he looked bad and fear he will look like this under pressure going forward also have no way to predict that as an outcome. Simply stated, we don’t know.

Look at Arch Manning - he had played a ton more than FB. Is he anticipating, reading defenses at a high level? I see no evidence of it or the evidence is minimal at best.

We are going to lose a lot more games this year if we don’t fix the glaring and obvious problems we have. These are problems our coaches must fix, but sticking our heads in the sand pretending other SEC teams aren’t anywhere near as good as TX is just foolish.

I don’t think there is any question he missed some reads but a lot of times that receiver came open about the time he he had 40 or 1 all up in his business.

He definitely missed a couple of opportunities. But it’s not like the o-line gave him any confidence in staying in the pocket for another half second. Maybe a couple of sacks were on Brandon but if you watch the game you saw an offensive line that couldn’t open any room for the backs, couldn’t protect the d-line more than 2 seconds, and playcalling that was reminiscent of the Johnny Majors era.

As I said in another thread that no one has answered I will repeat again. Under what circumstances should an experienced SEC line on a ranked team ever give up 10 sacks?? Especially to a defense that only had three sacks against Texas St and UTSA combined.

Even if you say FB was at fault for half the sacks, 5 is still too many from an experienced O-line. 5 is all Texas had given up total in the first 3 game.

Auburn will throw the kitchen sink at that OL.

And they are also acting like there will be an undefeated team in the SEC this year - highly likely there won't be. That ninth game is going to make it more difficult. There are currently five teams undefeated - Each team plays 2 of the other teams that are unbeaten.

Also, if you look at the group of those 5 plus LSU and Ole Miss - Florida only plays 2 of those 6 teams, Bama and UGA play 3 and Texas and MSU plays 4.

And there will be some games the other 9 teams win that will be unexpected. Always happens.

Bray had a bunch of fantastic Favre-like moments, throwing long balls when the play wasn't really supposed to do that and the like. Postgame, a reporter said something like, "They had Matt reading just one side of the field. Is that what they have you doing?" And he said, "Yeah...one side...but sometimes you just gotta make a play."

The ball should be gone by then. Heupel pointed out that he was holding onto it too long. He was looking for an open receiver instead of trusting that the receiver would be open at the spot. If you look for a receiver and only throw when he's open, he'll be covered by the time that ball arrives.

Can’t agree enough. The defense gives him a margin for error that we never had last year.
Texas and Sark have struggled to score since Quinn Ewers began struggling with injuries.. Happy for Knowles and the defense, but Texas’s offense is not a good benchmark.

We need Faizon to learn the difference between open and unguarded. He’s looking for guys who aren’t guarded currently.
