Pat Sullivan

RIP, when my sister enrolled at AU (1973 IIRC), I got a #7 "jersey" (it was more like a tee shirt) when we took her to school.

Sullivan was responsible for the only loss in Neyland Stadium that U.T. suffered when I was going to school there. I was there for the Fall seasons of 1967,68,69,70, and 71. We had one 17-17 tie against Georgia (1968 I think), and one loss to Auburn by one point in 1971 (again I think). We lost 10-9.

I still have nightmares over that game. Ahead 9 to 3; Beasley had been knocked out of the game earlier. He came back in and...Sullivan to Beasley, Sullivan to Beasley, Sullivan to Beasley, TD.... that was when I learned you don’t win football games kicking field goals. I sat in the stands afterwards, blisters on both hands from shakers, totally stunned, as the band played the Tennessee Waltz. That song is still sad to me.
