..for sure per sports talk, just a matter of when.

They also mentioned Damien Harris status to be unknown. Anyone know what that's about?

Obviously still no word on Ramar.

Damien Harris flat can't play at the SEC level.

What about when he is inflated? Can he play at the SEC level then?
Given how overweight he is, I don't think further inflating him would help. Harris is a perfect example of Buzz Peterson's inability to discern between Southern Conference players and SEC caliber talent.

If Pearl gets the chance, Harris's scholly will be opened up for incoming players. Passley will be a stud.

Good to see you've come around to my way of thinking about jettisoning Harris. Now, if Coach Pearl will make the same determination about Ryan Childress, the roster will shape up nicely.

I think Pearl likes Childress more than most people, mostly because hes got decent size and can shoot the 3. Harris has been in the doghouse for a while as well. The problem is, not many quality players want to be a 14th or 15th man on the roster.

I think you might be a bit optimistic about Passley's contribution. He'll help, but I wouldn't count on him averaging double figures.

I think his contribution will go farther than statistics. From what I've heard about the pickup games, he isn't quite as athletic as Asumnu, but he takes it to the rack with authority and plays over the rim. He also has a pretty good shot and crashes the boards as hard as anyone on the court.

The problem with getting rid of Harris is that who will backup Chism at center next year? I don't want Harris playing much, but we don't have any other options and I don't see many centers on our board right now. We may have to resort to splitting backup time behind Chism with Childress and Harris. Now if we were to somehow get Patterson, Hickson, or Southern(highest possibility), that story would be different. If we strike out on those and have to hope that Keenan Ellis qualifies, we may be in trouble.

I've seen Passley play and I think that's a pretty fair assessment. He is much more physical than I imagined. He has a lot of upper body size and I think he can be a very good defender. He has a decent outside shot (better than Asumnu for sure), and can get to the basket. He is definitely not going to be a guy that will lead the team in scoring but if teams leave him open he can hurt them.

Pearl could walk into any gym in Las Vegas this week and find 15 centers better than Harris. He can walk into any JUCO game between two decent teams and find 4 post players better than Harris. I can't state vehemently enough how far over his head Harris is at the SEC level. It's not his fault. He just had the misfortune of being recruited by one of the most clueless coaches in the history of major conference basketball.

I think he must be talking about 2007-08 becuase Chism will be backing up Major this season.

I'm hoping that Major picks up where he left off. He shut that Shocker kid down..

Yeah, that is why I said NEXT year, not this year. I'm sure there are better prospects out there, but why give up a scholly just so we have a player that is better than Harris? If he is SEC caliber, even if just a backup, that is understandable.

And I wouldn't pencil Wingate in just yet. Pearl is still saying that he thinks 3 freshmen can start this year. I'm assuming those 3 would be Crews, Chism, and a PG(Tabb or Johnson). Wingate is still on suspension as well.

Anything can happen between now and November but based on the way things stand right now Wingate starts over Chism. I know a lot of people on the board seem to disagree on the Chism/Wingate thing but my lineup looks like this:

1. Johnson (Smith if he makes it)
2. Lofton
3. Bradshaw
4. Crews
5. Wingate

Interesting. Nineteen comments before this one and narry a one mentions Passley's misdeed, much less question whether it is a good idea to bring him back. I have no clue as to whether it would be right or wrong to do so, mind you. Just noting that no one seemed to care so long as you figure he can help the team.

that's it lg. You got us on that one.

We should send the kid upstate for being in a car where some drugs were found.

I realize that you probably don't know much about the situation but I think that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. We have no reason to believe otherwise. If this kid had record or something it would be a different story I believe and I am sure if it happens again he would be dismissed.

You're right LG. He should be kicked off for misdemeanor possession charges while players shooting live rounds into houses shouldn't even be suspended. What a crock.

I agree with that lineup, it just depends on what Pearl wants. Wingate brings more defense and better inside offense, but Chism is a better rebounder and has better range on offense.
