Passing Game

Overall, I thought the WR’s looked good. We would be more positive if the go route to Mathew’s was thrown 5 yards deeper…would have been 6. Staley looked great and healthy. I think Heup knows what he has in those 2 young guys and has shown belief in them and their development. Brazzel was actually impressive (minus the drop that hit him in the chest). He actually had some great possession, move the chains type routes. Kitsleman is one of the best TE’s in the country. Curious about how and how much they use Ethan Davis. Also thought Star Thomas gives us an actual back that can run routes (Bishop and Lewis can run screens and check downs) but I loved the goal line route option he provides.

We are still a run first team and think we will be very successful with the run again this year but fellas, I think the passing game will be stellar and we will be more balanced. I like that we went fast out of the gate, threw deep 3 times spread it around and looked to be more creative. I’m encouraged.

On the Matthews deep ball. A coaching point Pope will likely mention is Matthews probably should have tried to high point the ball rather than letting the ball drop into his arms. May not have caught the ball but likely would have gotten a PI.
