From Gary Parrish Show (ESPN 92.9) in Memphis...with guest John Martin (recruiting writer) of CA

- No longer fielding calls from coaches.

- Decision probably coming next week.

- Decision based on the whole school experience, not just basketball.... that seems like TN more than others

- Parrish - Tennessee can offer him different atmosphere that Memphis can not offer outside of basketball (used hanging out with Skylar and 7 sorority girsl as an example..haha)

- Memphis tried as hard as they have with anyone to land this kid, but this is not the typical Memphis kid nor typical top 20 recruit.

- Parrish - Hint given to him this week...told Memphis pitch was if you do not want to go to Memphis, go to Duke. Duke said if you don't come to Duke, stay at home.....Said that neither program wanted Martin pulling a kid of this caliber and that seem to alert Nichols family that both staffs must think UT is on the rise.

- Martin - tries to bash Martin's recruiting. Parrish counters with..if he grabs Nichols, he just landed Hubbs, Nichols, and Stokes in a 12 month span...can't discredit that....

-Guess for JuJuan Johnson is Marquette...he announces tomorrow. Other choices are Bama and Miami

I assume this is what VolGee4 was talking about....apparently John Martin was really b******g about Tennessee basketball and the program.

This was said about John Martin..."Guy that covers Memphis BB recruiting is complaining about Tenn BB, Funny stuff. He said he expects AN to go to Tenn but doesnt understand the appeal of the Tenn BB program. Just complained about it the whole time lol"

Found this interesting, maybe has some truth, seems we heard about this awhile back.

I m guessing that coach k thinks a lot of our staff and doesn't think as much about the men staff. I can't really blame him. Its pretty obvious mem is going to start losing more recruits to us in the future, if Martin stays here for a while.

Alright so here's the deal. I have a degree from both UT and Memphis. I appreciate both schools for what they gave me. I root for UT over Memphis but I like Pastner and root for them as we'll. John Martin has said some things the last 6 months that are astounding and really biased. I could understand if he just wrote for a Memphis site, but he now writes for the Memphis paper, which is a different animal. He needs to take Parrish's lead. Parrish is a national writer who has a degree from Memphis, but he calls it like he sees it. If that means criticizing then he will.

Several months ago, after a CCM interview, John Martin said that UT wouldn't get any of the big names in Memphis. Then a month or so later, he and Parrish got into an argument about if Hubbs or Jujuan Johnson was better. Martin said Johnson. Then today, while he acknowledged that UT has a good college atmosphere, he said that the Memphis staff recruited Nichols the hardest, that he thinks UT wont be competing in the top 4-6 in the SEC in the coming years, and that UT would not be a destination for him. When Parrish said that now UT had Hubbs, Nichols, and maybe still Stokes, Martin said "that is just 2 players. Travon Landry and AJ Davis aren't big time."

Don't know why I even care what others say, but I listen to Parrish a lot, and it just gets to me when people don't tell the whole story.

Thanks for the full explanation VolGee, post more often.

I try not to let it get to me either, but as you said, he really should tell both sides and be a little unbiased. The other guys aren't bad, Parrish and Smith, they tell it like it is usually.

It's ok though, if/when AN comes here Johny is gonna hear it big time...as you said, awhile back he said TN would get none of those guys, they're about to pull 2 of them....

Donovan should be worried about beating us on the floor not out recruiting us.
Tennessee having his number lately hasn't affected Donovan's performance in the postseason. Florida isn't worried about Tennessee, except for the one day out of the season in which we play them.

Coach K isn't going to tell Austin or his dad to stay home if he doesn't sign with Duke.
