Paint the Rock for Scroggins, Dyer, and Camp!

Rumors are abound now. Some rumors out there saying that Scroggins might commit before the weekend is up! YEEEOOWW.

For more details check the Scroggins recruiting thread

“I came here and my name was on this big rock,” Scroggins said with a wide smile. “That’s very impressive. I felt welcome, very welcome.”

:clapping:

Good job guys.

Recruits obviously love seeing their name on the rock, so someone needs to make sure that baby is painted for Seantrel when he visits....

Scroggins certainly felt at home when he saw “The Rock” painted orange and white with “Scroggins = T Championships”. “The Rock” is a minivan-sized stone close to the athletic complex that is often painted with university-related messages.

Need to plant a few rocks out there!

We're mass comunicating then.
...I just got to thinking. I have been planning on doing a highly detailed 3D model of a Volunteer characture...you can see a sketch of it at the end of my demo reel:
http://www.dnash-art.com/demo_reel.html

And very rough beginning of the head in a sculpting application is below....anyway, when I'm done, I was planning on using it for T-Shirts and maybe seeing if CLK/Athletic Dept. could use it in any of their media projects...etc.

It just dawned on me that if they liked it, there are 3D Print companies that can take the file and create a physical 3D model. Not sure how large in scale it can go, but maybe by this time next year, we can have a statue of this guy in or near the Athletic Facilities with a plaque, where messages like this can be placed (posterboard or otherwise).

P.S. The other image is roughly the proportion and detail I'm shooting for

Very creative!
Thanks. Yeah, I just remembered one project I worked on (the 3d model was originally going to be used for promotional materials), the client decided to have "3D Prints" (smaller scale models) made to show to his client (Budweiser Distr. I think)...they sent the files straight to manufacturing. So, I'm guessing a similar thing could be done...and if I get cooking, maybe we can see a life-sized model (i'm sure they could get it coated in bronze or something) at the entrance of the stadium or something, before or during the season? I'll post some WIP's (works in progress) along the way if anyone is interested in seeing it (comments, critiques).

Dude, you are full of ideas ain't ya.
Well..."The Rock" gave me some...no doubt.
I had been planning on getting this model done this summer, in time for football season (for T-Shirts)...wanted to do one spoofing the scene in 300 where the King screams "This is Sparta!!!":
YouTube - 300 Penguins "THIS IS SPARTA"

Kicking a gator in the hole :)
THIS IS KNOXVILLE!!!

But seriously...it's a lot of work to do, and I figured there will be more than one application for this...and just trying to think of how to take the Rock Idea one step further...cause before you know it, other teams are going to copy the whole "Rock" thing. Want to stay a step ahead of 'em, if we can.

+1

To the guy who painted the rock.....you have done a GREAT service as a UT fan. I hope the coaches know who it was by name, so they can thank you properly when Scroggins commits. You da man!!

orange_swarm did it. Ohiovol09 and some of his friends did it originally, but it was painted over before Scroggins was in town to see it.

Thanks guys!
