Overrated/Underrrated SEC teams in 2025

Just my thoughts and opinion of course but i think Texas and LSU are overrated coming into the season and A&M and Tennessee are underrated. People are definitely sleeping on us and have slid us back to the pack after Nico leaving. I think we will definitely compete for a playoff spot again i got the Vols at 10-2 or 9-3 this season. Our defense will be as good or close to it as last season. Yea the big question is the QB but i have faith that we won’t miss Nico that much. I’ve seen some preseason publications and gurus picking us as low as 12th in the SEC this season that’s crazy to me no way do we finish that low. The floor is 8-4 at the very worst. Go Vols!!!

Depending upon where Tennessee starts the season ranked, we could be over or underrated. A top 10 preseason ranking means we are likely overrated but a 18-25ish type ranking means we are likely underrated. This is probably a 15ish type team to be honest. Georgia and Texas are likely overrated if the assumption is they are likely title contenders

I think Ole Miss and Texas A&M will surprise some people and be in CFP contention. Im still not sure about UGA this season bc of their quarterback and they don’t run the ball the way they used to. Everyone is on Bama right now and their Defense, I’m still not sold on them w/ Ty Simpson. I think USCjr lost a lot on D and they have an absolutely brutal October and November schedule . @ LSU home vs OU and Bama, @ Ole Miss and @ Texas A&M, plus Clemson to end the season.

Brian Kelley is 29-11 at LSU.
72% winning percentage.

That’s a secure winning percentage if you’re South Carolina or Arkansas. But LSU has
Won 3 National Championships since we won our last in 1998. They’re expectations are to compete and Brian Kelley hasn’t done that with them despite talent being there.
South Carolina as a program is barely above .500 all-time (644-616-44). They'd consider a coach who won at that clip there to be a god. Not even Spurrier approached that when he was there.

I think Bama is overrated. Many are taking for granted that Deboar is going to get the team rolling again, but I don't see it. Ty Simpson is trash. And as good of an offensive mind Deboar may have been, he has never had a really good run game. He has had his success through the air. And without a good QB, I don't see the offense doing that well.

Texas is overrated, but still a good team with an easy schedule. So they will still have a good record and make the CFP, but don't consider them serious contenders. Arch will need a year to acclimate. He will be serviceable, but not a guy to carry you to a championship in year 1.

I would have said OU is underrated, but many seem to have jumped on the bandwagon since.

I also do think we are underrated, as everyone is counting out our potential with Nico leaving. I actually think Aguilar could be a great fit in Heupel's offense and average over 250+ yards passing per game.

Aguilar has not yet won the starting position. In fact, I think he missed his first 5 targets in today's practice.

Oh I don't like LSU. However, (rather unfortunately) that's where I ended up for my MBA.

I can agree with that. Brian Kelly sucks. AND he faked the accent when he was hired. Like bro, you're not from the south.
Trying to fake Ogre’s 👹 accent will get you fed to the gators 🐊 down certain bayous…

He's the starter. He was paid good money to come here, not to sit. He is the only QB on the roster who has averaged 275+ passing yards per game the last 2 seasons in college. I'm not concerned with him missing some passes in practice. Some were on the receivers as well.

Merklinger looked abysmal in the Orange & White game and as much potential G-Mac has they are not throwing him in as starter as a freshman. He needs more time in the weight room.

The playing field has been leveled so much that this season I have had more of a challenge answering that question than probably ever. I could see Georgia have a 2024 repeat or win it all, similar thoughts with Bama. Texas is loaded but could stumble out of the gate and lose to Georgia again. Florida could be for real and make a run at the playoffs or Napier is still a loser and Lagway gets hurt too much. Can we finally trust Texas 8&4 - I mean A&M? Does LSU make a run or is Kelly getting fired? Same with Tons are thinking Auburn has a good season... what do they know I dont? I really have no idea. Makes it pretty exciting.

I did an SEC analysis, here are a few thoughts:

I agree, LSU is probably a little overrated and their schedule is brutal

Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee all have very manageable schedules. I have Ole Miss at 10-2 and Missouri/Tennessee at 9-3. Going off OP, I think Tennessee is ranked about where we should be as I think this team doesn't look as good as 2024 on paper, but the schedule is manageable outside of the Alabama and Florida road games.

Georgia's schedule is a lot easier than 2024. Most of their big games are in Athens (Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas for example). I have a hard time finding a loss on their schedule. I put them at 12-0 but I definitely think they will drop a game. There hard games are also spread out.

Although they may likely beat Tennessee, I think Florida is going to have a rough year overall. I have them at 6-6.

Vandy is in a weird spot. I have them at 4-8 but I have a funny vibe about them.

Texas A&M could be a sleeper.
