Overcoming the Talent Gap

I am not a Fulmer Fan but some of you that think that his coaching was the only problem are just fooling yourselves. To me, the lack of talent was evident. The kind of talent that the top four teams in the SEC enjoy at least.

Yeah our offense had the wrong guys out there at the skill spots. But Fulmer is to blame for the lack of talent. He has to recruit too.

Bama had less talent when Saban joined than UT has now. The gap isn't nearly as huge as some make it. Our team has been out of shape, undisciplined, and undeveloped. I'm not saying there isn't a difference between the talent in say LSU or UF and UT, but it isn't glaring. UF has a ton more speed, but speed and talent are two way different things. LSU has as much talent as UF, but it hasn't been utilized nearly as well as what Urban has been doing.

That sums it up pretty well. Bama stepped it up at the line of scrimmage in development. FL has the skill players.

Florida has it all. Their line is the quintessential spread OL. They're athletic, cohesive, quick, and strong.

Disagree with that a little.

Bama hung with them because they out played them at the line of scrimmage. FL won the game because their skill players are better than everybody right now. If FL was even with Bama at the line of scrimmage, it would have been a 3 TD game.

Also if they had Harvin they would've put up more points.

They have a good D-line but the LBs are just okay to me.

You think that McClain and Hightower are just ok?... McClain is a first rounder and I think that Hightower may be just as good in a couple of years.

As stated I was talking about the Sooners. But Hightower will be better than McClain. McClain doesn't do enough out there. Hightower smashes the FBs all game so why doesn't McClain dominate. Someone will take him first round but he's not worth it.

As has been stated, our main problem the last few years has been line play. The lines are the foundation of a good football team. Talent has also misused and underused, as in the case of Brad Cottam.

My bad.

I agree that Hightower may end up being better. I just don't remember is he can defend the pass well. I saw a few times were McClain was burned.

Talent gap my ass. Yall have had 4 top 5 classes since 2002. Don't complain about talent. That's not your problem. Coaching may be though...

There is a gap, but it is not as big as some think.

2 of our last 4 classes were 23rd and 35th depending on who you use.

We have took a step back.
